While working in that jail, there was one thing that my mind would often fixate on. Was it the deranged prisoners that would salivate on the thought of a "incident" happening to me or my fellow co workers?
Did i spend my time, thinking how im seen as the weakest of the guards, and most likely to get into a "incident"? Maybe my thoughts was filled with despise to my fellow co-workers that didn't seem to want me among their ranks? While all these things did occupy some place in my mind, there was something unusual in this prison that often draw my attention. The bunker that was being constructed just under our feet, why you might ask? Well, for starters, do all prisons build a bunker? Especially in such a hurry, hiring a company who's workers were forbidden from interacting with any of us. Workers who's faces no one have seen, who's voices no one have heard. Wearing full body protection like if they were working in a nuclear facility.
What's more odd, was the size of the bunker. One could think it would be a room where the guards could take refuge in vase of a riot, what other use could it have in a prison? However, day by day it looked more as a bank vault, with reinforced walls with a thickness of over one meter, covered in centimeters thick titanium alloy. It was build several meters underground, i was pretty sure the warden went nuts and were preparing for a nuclear holocaust.
Yesterday, i finally got some answers, and a lot more questions, when military arrived with a unusual cargo. A giant steel sarcaphacus was carried out of a military truck, it was about 4 meters long, and ten men had to roll it on a special build cart. The effort they put on moving it indicates that the sarcaphacus was definitely not hollow. They carried it toward the bunker, at that time i thought i solved the mystery! I thought to myself "the reason why it looked like a bank vault, is because it was a vault! Made to store whatever was in the sarcaphacus." I was pretty sure the sarcaphacus was filled with weapon grade uranium or something.
New day, new life. Sounds corny? Well, that was very true for me today. But first, something i should have done earlier, let me introduce myself. As you know already, im a guard in a prison. Im the least social person you could imagine, awkward and quiet, a easy target for mockery from the prisoners. Im a outcast that no one cares about. My name is Johan, and im 23 years old man living alone. That should do it for a introduction.
Today i have been ordered to speak with the warden in his office. It didn't seem like good news, i had no idea what i did, but i was on the lower end when it came to job performance, hopefully il just get scolded and told to get my shit together.
I arrived at the office, and to my surprise, i was welcomed not only by the warden. Four soldiers stood by the door and a army general told me to sit down. I have never been this intimidated in my life, what could the army want from me? And this officer... he would put Schwarzenegger in his prime to shame. A man with long beard who introduced himself and the high commander Tyr, he and his men were wearing a insignia i have never seen before, a upward poiting arrow on a golden background. They had the insignia on stiched into the forearms of their uniforms.
The commander then asked warden, "so this is the guy? You are telling me he will keep his tongue behind his teeth?"
I was not the only one intimidated by the man calling himself Tyr, wardens voice trembled while he tried explain his decision about me. "Yes, he won't feel urge to tell about this to anyone, because he don't have anyone to talk with, he won't drunkenly say a word to a bystander, because he is too afraid to speak with people. And most importantly..." He then looked at me and finished his sentence "You want to matter, dont you? This is your chance to mean anything, all you have to do is what you always do, be a social outcast like you always are and don't talk with anyone, that sounds like a good deal, don't it?"He then slided a document under my nose.
I looked confused for a moment, no one was talking for good few seconds, after a moment of complete silence, Tyr said "Read it, don't waste our time". Then the silence returned and i did what i was told to. It said the following:"i, Johan Stureson, understands that anything about my new position as a overseer of newly build cell U1, and anything surrounding it is top secret. I wont whare any information about anything i will see, hear or learn about after my promotion. and any violation of this agreement will end in my instant termination" i didn't like the last part, termination from my job...or terminated in a sense that i will smell flowers from underground?
I didn't really like to accept to anything, but i wasn't sure if i could just walk out of there after declining, so i grabbed a pen and wrote my signature at the bottom of the document. I will start my job tomorrow in a new office, positioned above the cell U1, that i earlier wrongly assumed was a vault or a bunker, tomorrow i will get to learn what was in the sarcaphacus, what is the thing i am supposed to watch over.
