It is said that the wealthy man, Nicholas had many wives but he fell in love with his first wife's beautiful handmaiden. Each night he would summon her to the rose garden, where he would talk to her for hours. Each morning she would receive a single rose and a card.
The news of the affair spread far and wide through the town he practically owned. His second wife grew the most embarrassed of this and spoke to him about the rumors. He ignored her worries and complaints and continued to see His rose. All records of her name have been lost.
His rose could no longer take the mistreatment from his wives and the dirty looks and remarks people threw at her while in town. She told Nick she no longer wanted to see him, but he loved her and refused to let her go.
Three nights passed and Nicholas made his way to the garden after he had summoned her. When he reached the garden he found her lying on the damp, dark green grass darkened by the scarlet blood that once had made her cheeks so rosy. Rose petals laid all around her, and a single red rose was lying on her chest.
For his sweet, beautiful, Rose. Had killed herself.
