When I get home, I head straight for the kitchen, and grab the biggest plate of biscuits I could find and head to the great hall for dinner. I place the biscuits on the table, and begin to shove the variety of haggis, lamb, potatoes and sausages in one big gulp. it's a good thing mother was too busy reading, otherwise she would have lectured me about it not being lady like to stuff your gob.
What is she reading anyway, that is so important, that it has to interrupt dinner! Oh great, our maid, Maudie, has entered with some letters. Probably replies for my birthday celebration.
"Thank you Maudie." mum says in her usual queen like tone. Maudie disappears back into the kitchen, while mum reads the letters. there is utter silence in the room.
"Fergus." we all stare at her waiting to see what mums going to say.
"They've all accepted!" Oh so they were replies, but I'll ask, just to make sure.
"Who's accepted what, mother?" I ask surprised. she ignores my question and tells the boys that they are excused. ok this can't be good.
"What did I do now?" I ask
"Merida, your farther has something to discuss with you." Dad stares at mum for a while then
"Merida... you... well basically ah..."
"The lords are presenting their sons as suitors for you betrothal!" Mum cuts of dad. betrothal!
"Wait... what!"
"Merida, the clans have accepted!"
"DAD!"
"What i... you... she.. Elinor?"
"Honestly, Merida, I don't know why your acting this way!" This is getting too much for me. I don't want to get married I want to be free... like jack!
"Merida, this is what you've been preparing for your whole life!"
"NO! This is what you've been preparing me for my whole life!" Without thinking I stand up and and walk directly to the door.
"I won't go through with this. You can't make me!" I shout back to her
"Merida!"
I quickly rush to my room and cry myself to sleep. tomorrow is going to be the worst day of my life.
