Matt slammed his front door and walked up to his room, still reeling from his confrontation with Jen. He knew he was harsh, it's just he had liked this girl for years and when he finally manages to move onto someone else she suddenly feels same way. Matt knew he had to apologise, he didn't want to ruin one of the best friendships he'd had. Matt got out few pieces of paper and wrote 'I'm sorry' on one of them and put it against the window where Jen could read it, she smiled and started wring down something too,
'It's okay, I'm sorry too'
Matt didn't know what to write but something in his brain clicked and he realised how much of an idiot he was, he had a crush on Jen for years but he didn't have proper feelings for her until after they started talking. He liked Carrie, he really did but she didn't compare to Jen and Matt knew it sounded bad but it was true. He made a huge mistake.Matt wrote down for Jen to meet him at the front of his house, she smiled and they both walked out of their rooms. Jen made her way over to Matt, she didn't look angry with him which Matt was relieved of. He lead her inside his house.
"So" Jen questioned
"Jen I'm sorry about what I said, because I didn't mean it. No one compares to you, the feelings that I have for you never went away they've just become stronger. And each day that goes by without me seeing you, that day is just never good"Matt moved closer to Jen to the point where their lips were only inches apart
"I want you" he whispered
Matt pulled her closer to him and slowly placed his lips on hers, Jen kissed him back wrapping her arms around his neck. They both slowly pulled away breathless. Both of them were lost for words. A few seconds later which seemed like hours Matt finally said something,
"I think I need to break up with Carrie"
"Okay but Matt, I don't think we should tell anyone that this happened"
"Alright but did this mean anything to you" Matt questioned
"How could you ask me that, it meant everything"The next day at school Matt went up to Carrie and told her he didn't want to see her anymore, he didn't explain why. She was really mad and so were his friends,
"Matt you stupid idiot, what possible reason could you have for breaking up with Carrie, she was perfect for you" Ben exclaimed
"Look it was a good reason, trust me" Matt said while glancing over at Jen.
The bell went and everyone started walking to class, Aubrey pulled Matt aside,
"Something happened between you and Jen, didn't it"
"Well, I kind of kissed her"
"So what are you going to start dating her?"
"I don't know, I mean I want to. Its just we go off to college soon and then the relationship is probably going to end" Matt replied
"Matt if you want to be with her, then be with her just deal with the mess later".Matt took Aubrey's advice and confronted Jen about their relationship
"I want to take you out, like on a date"
Jen smiled "really"
Matt kissed her on the cheek "of course".That night Matt and Jen went to the beach which was empty and just stared at the waves, enjoying each other's company.
"Hey" Jen said "you know what I want to do"
"What" Matt questioned
"This" Jen answered, leaning in closer to Matt kissing him sensually, she slowly pushed his down onto his back and climbed on top of him. She deepened the kiss, their legs intertwined with each other's not pausing to take a breath. After ten minutes they both slowly pulled away, not being able to take their eyes off each other
"We're not going to take this slow, are we" Matt asked
Jen shook her head
Matt let out a smile "Good because I don't want too"During the next few weeks Matt and Jen didn't exactly make their relationship public. Matt didn't want to hurt Carrie's feelings and Jen was very eager to keep their relationship secret too. Matt was scared that she was ashamed of him but he realised he can't let his habit of overthinking destroy his relationship.
On a Friday afternoon Matt and Jen went to the ice cream shop. Matt noticed that there was no one from their school there so Matt leant over and kissed Jen and she kissed him back. Little did he know it was the day their relationship became public.
"Ew, what the hell" some girl said sounding disgusted
Both Matt and Jen looked up and there stood Stacey, Jen's former best friend
"Can you just go away Stacey" Jen sighed
"I just can't believe you're going out with this nerd"
Matt had enough of not standing up for himself, he didn't want anyone else to fight his battles
"Excuse me Stacey, I'm literally right here okay, nobody cares. Just fuck off"
Stacey still had a sour look on her face "you know what, you guys can just be nerds together"
Stacey walked out of the shop and both Jen and Matt were relieved
"You know she was my best friend ever since middle school" Jen commented "and you know what's really sick Matt, even though she doesn't have the best personality and she slept with my boyfriend. I still miss her so much, it was hard losing Owen but it destroyed me losing her, it just took me a while to realise it""Missing your best friend doesn't make you sick Jen"
"So what does it make me?" Jen asked
"Human"
