Mama sees I'm a little slumped over my strawberry waffles and shakes her head. "Azalea Marie Snow, did you get one wink of sleep last night?" I perk up instantly with an uneasy smile, "Of course Mama!"

She raises an eyebrow. "So what was all that typing I heard last night then in your room when I got home around ten at night missy?" There is no use in trying to lie to her now since she already knows that I was up typing on my typewriter.

"Just writing my story, but I still got some sleep I promise!" She shakes her head. Her caramel colored hair moves around in straight waves. "My baby sure is a writer. Well as long as you get some sleep it doesn't bother me but, don't lean over your waffles. That syrup is very sticky."

My cocoa curls are almost touching the tasty condiment. I eat some forkfuls of waffle. Dad comes in and Mama hands him a cup of his daily black coffee, he gives her a kiss and I make a gagging noise. He pulls away and laughs. "What feeling left out?" I quickly shake my head no but he's already giving me a big wet kiss on the forehead.

"Ew! Dad!" With a grossed out expression I grab a napkin and wipe my forehead off. "That was so gross!" He shrugs, "So let me kiss your mother then." I shake my head and continue eating my breakfast. "You two are crazy." Mama smiles and serves Dad breakfast along with herself. I run to the sink and place my plate in along with empty mug that was filled with coffee.

I run upstairs to my room and start throwing on clothes. Denim overalls with a off white turtle neck sweater. I grab my coat and mittens and run downstairs. I jump into my boots and slip into the plaid coat. "Hey Mama, Dad, I'm going to Sam's see you guys later. I'll be back around lunchtime!" I run out before I can hear their answer.

My hands get instantly warm as I slip on the gloves. There is some patches of ice under some snow on the sidewalks. It doesn't stop me from running to Sam's.

When I knock on his door he almost answers it right after the knock. "Hey there Zalee Bug! Ready? I told my parents I'm going to grab breakfast like donuts or something from a café while we hangout." I nod. "Sounds good and you know I hate when you call me that Sam I Am."

"Only gives me more of a reason to call you Zalee Bug." He closes his door and we walk off his lawn. A snowman stands by his mailbox. I fix his little top hat before we walk off.

"How's the Polaroid camera?" I smile at him, "Well I haven't used it since last night. But, your picture is on my desk if you want it later." He shakes his head, "No you keep it. You took it."

We make a game of slipping on the ice and the other has to catch you while running before you hit the ground, I've accidentally dropped Sam once and his butt stings a little now, I keep telling him to let me fall to get even but he refuses.

We slide right to Luna's Café. The smell of apple pie wafts towards us and envelopes us in it's delicious scent when we walk in. Luna Carr is setting out a freshly baked pie on the counter, the only visitors she gets sometimes this early is Sam and I.

"Hey there babycakes, wanna slice? It's fresh out of the oven." Sam smiles "Will ten bucks do?" Luna starts cutting two big pieces "Will on the house do?" She asks him and serves him two slices with a sprinkle of of sugar on the crust.

"Thank you Luna dear." We watch as she waves bye and goes to the back to probably bake another pie.

We take a seat closest to the door and grab forks. I welcome the sugary, apple taste of the filling. The cinnamon kick is delightful and my little habit of scrunching my nose up when I'm pleased happens. Sam laughs and pokes my nose, causing me to swat his hand away while laughing.

"Does it taste good?" I nod and take another bite. "Yeah it is." He says with a mouth filled of apple pie.
