FLIGHT 322 TO FOURT LAUDERDALE FLORIDA HAS BEEN DELAYED came blasting out of the airport speakers
“And this is why I told we shouldn’t go on a cruise during Christmas!” I complained.
My name is Sophie and I live in New York, I just turned 17 this November. Today my family and I are going on our flight to Florida to get on a “beautiful cruise around the Caribbean!” emphasis on the sarcasm.
You’re probably thinking I’m stupid and that this is amazing, who wouldn’t be excited to go on this amazing cruise!
“Sophie shut up! Can you just be happy for one second!” My 20 year old sister Emily yelled.
I groaned. I really don’t want to go on this cruise. You see, not only is my family going, but were also joining another 4 families but the problem is all the younger kids going are my sister age, so basically I’m going on this cruise alone. I wouldn’t call myself very shy, but I’m no social butterfly… more like socially awkward.
“This is so stupid, why couldn’t we just stay home for Christmas like normal happy families!” I yelled.
Oh, did I mention this was my Christmas present too. Wow thank you mom and dad for this beautiful gift that I do not want. How kind of you. I guess I can always make new friends on the boat…. Scratch that, nobody would want to talk to me anyways.
2 hours and 3 bags of gummy worms later, we finally got on our flight. My dad gave me my ticket and I went to go find my seat. After walking for what seemed like forever I found my seat. Great I thought I’m so far away from my family and I have to sit next to some random guy. A voice broke my thoughts.
“Hi, sorry excuse me, can I just get to my seat.” I let the girl past me and she sat in the middle. She was tall with long dirty blonde hair. She was obviously from Florida because of her amazing natural tan. I sat back down and she looked at me while smiling. “Hi I’m Nikki, nice to meet you!” she said. She held out her hand for me to shake it and I quickly took it.
“Hi, I’m Sophie. You from Florida?” I said.
“Yeah, I was staying in New York with a friend for a little, but I'm going back home for Christmas, how about you?”
“I’m from New York-“ I stopped mid sentence because she started giggling. “What’s so funny?” I asked.
“When you said New York I could hear your accent, I can definitely tell.” She replied still laughing a bit.
“Oh, I never realized, I guess it just comes naturally.” I laughed along with her. Soon the plane took off and I quickly fell asleep. About 3 hours later, I felt someone tap on my shoulder.
“Hey Sophie, wake up. Were landing and you gotta put your chair back up.” Nikki whispered to me.
“Oh hey thanks. I’m so ready to get off this plane. I need to sleep on a real bed.” I said.
“Me too! Hey can I get your number? Maybe we can meet up next time I’m up in New York!” I smiled at my new friend, hey that was easier than I thought; maybe making friends won’t be so hard? We exchanged numbers and got ready for landing.
“Bye Nikki! It was great meeting you! Ill text you before the cruise starts up!” I said goodbye to Nikki and met up with my family at baggage claim. We got our bags and headed to the port where the cruise ship was docked.
Well, here goes nothing…
