My family and I stood on line waiting to get our bags checked into the boat and get everything settled. For those of you who’ve been on a cruise before, you understand the agony of this. It took 2 hours just to get a stupid card with my name on it just to get into a room!
Maybe I should be grateful that my parents are doing this for my sister and me I thought. Whatever.
“Hey Sophie, did you know I got us one of the best rooms on the boat, its got a balcony and everything!” my dad said, sounded a bit more excited than he should be.
“Thanks dad, I'm sure it’ll be great!” I faked a smile and we went up the elevator to the 12th floor on the ship.
Hey this is kind of cool, were right under the pool deck I thought. We walked to our room and my jaw literally dropped. I looked at my sister Emily and we fell to the floor laughing.
“OH MY GOD I CANT BREATHE!” I said in between laughs. The room was the size of a bathroom with two twin beds cramped in and bunk beds on top. I walked into the so-called bathroom and fell over with laughter again.
“Dad I think you got ripped off” I said while looking at the small shower, lets just say if you were a bit chubby, there was a possibility of getting stuck in the shower. My dad stood there in shock but then quickly got over it. That was fast. Emily got a text from one of the girls, Maya, coming on the cruise with us. She wanted to meet up by the pool.
“Hey Soph, Maya wants us to meet her by the pool, wanna come with or do you want to just meet us there?” Emily asked me.
“I’ll meet up with you in a bit, I just want to change out of these clothes. Keep you’re phone near you.” I answered.
“kay, see ya later!” she yelled as she walked out of her room.
I went outside of the room and got my luggage that had just arrived. I opened it up and decided I might as well unpack since I’m going through my bag anyways. I put all my clothes into 2 drawers and took out a pair of pink shorts with a flowery chiffon shirt and a pink bikini for underneath. I got dressed in the bathroom then went out into the balcony and looked down at the water.
When did we start moving? Oh well I guess I should go find Emily and the other girls now. I thought.
I grabbed my phone and my room key and shut the door. Making my way to the elevators, I tried to remember where the pool was. Oh gosh, here comes my short term memory loss. I got onto the next elevator that opened and went down to the 6th floor. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas with lights and trees everywhere. I started walking toward some glass doors that looked like they would lead to the pool deck. As I was walking down the hallway I decided to text Emily asking her where she was.
NO SERVICE kept on coming up. I kept on walking with my head down trying to contact any of the girls to come and find me. That’s when I bumped into someone and fell to the floor. I was lying on my back with my eyes closed and my hand over my head.
Wow that was awkward and embarrassing, could I be any clumsier? I thought. I looked up and that’s when I saw the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes I’ve ever seen.
“I’m so sorry!” he said. What kind of accent was that?
Little did I know, this moment would change my life forever.
