I was with my sister when it all happened. I was visiting her at college a few states away in Atlanta, Georgia. it was around May and we were sitting in the lounge playing cards with her friend Mandy. We turned on the TV and an emergency broadcast came up saying how there had been an outbreak and people are to stay in their homes and not go outside. Everyone started to freak out and run, then one of those things came in and took a bite out of Mandy. Me and my sister, Ashley, screamed and ran. when we got outside we ran to the car and drove as far as we could.
A month or so passed after that and we were hiding in the woods. We started to pack up and get moving again when my sister went to the creek to get water, when I turned there was a hurd chasing her i ran to her and we bolted down the trail. I held onto her hand and we tried to run but it wasn't enough, we stopped and she told me to run, when i was going to go back for her she tripped on a log, then one of those things took a chunk out of her side she told me to run and she will always be with me. So I ran, and I could hear her screams get softer and quieter as I ran. I ran until my feet hurt and my lungs felt like they were going to explode, then I fell down and cried. Ever since then I try not to be apart of a group, the fear of losing someone else that I care about deeply terrified me.
It had been a few weeks, heck maybe a month or 3, maybe July and I haven't seen a human since my sister. I have been walking on the edge of the highway and camping out in the woods. I was a shy and distance person, until it came to my sister, when she left for college a few years back I felt so alone and would always go to the woods to get away. I taught myself how to hunt, so I guess you could say I was a hunter before this all happened so I knew how to track and hunt down my pray. I haven't seen any deer or rabbit that I could catch and eat. I haven't ate in a while and I have became all skin and bone most likely. I came passed a store and went inside. I eased me bow and started to rummage through shelves, then I heard what sounded like humming. I peeked from behind a shelf and saw a man in a baseball hat. I quickly decided to get up and try to make it to the door when the man with the baseball hat saw me,
"Put down your weapon." He said. I could tell he didn't do this often cause he shaked a little. So I did as he said. I'm not the toughest person and I didn't want to be killed. I layed down my bow when he asked, "Do you have any other weapons on you?"
I shook my head, "I have a knife in my boot and a gun with about 3 other knives in my bag."
"Can you remove the knife and hand me the bag?" He asked. He seemed like a very nice guy, he was nervous, I could tell but so was I. I handed him my bag and he introduce himself as Glenn. I told him my name was Alison.
"Well Alison, do you have a group, or any place to stay?"
"No I don't" I said while looking at the floor. I looked up and I could see him thinking, then he said, "Well I have a group if you would like to come, looks like you haven't eaten in a while. I can bring you back but you might get some stares at first, and I will have to talk to Rick, the leader, and see if you can stay. So would you like to come?" "Yes please. Thank you so much." I said as a smile came upon my face.
We headed to a car and I hopped in the front while Glenn put bags in the back. "Here," Glenn said while giving me my bag with weapons and my bow. "You don't look like you would hurt a fly, but when we get back to the farm we will have to take them," he said with a frown. I looked at him with thankful eyes and we drove Away.
