Toby's POV
I'm on the train and I glare out the window and see the same old small town of Rosebud. Nothing has changed since I left three years ago. I was 12 and started getting in to trouble, so my mom sent me to a three year military academy. Now I'm back and ready to change. The bad part is nothing is this town will have or will ever change.
I pull my rusty old Chevy pick up truck into the gravel driveway and see two smiling angels, my mom and my cousin Derek.
"Toby" everyone screams in unison.
"Family" I holler back at them.
I step out the truck and am tackled by Emma and Sophie the "two angels" and my 200 lb. German Shepard Noah.
Thankfully I only fall to my knees and get back up before going down all the way. I pick both girls up and throw them over my shoulders.
"Dang Toby you're buff." Shouts Derek.
"They worked me hard in Alabama" I reply.
Before I say anything else I plant a kiss on my mom's cheek.
"Where's Jenny?" I question
"You didn't tell him?" Derek shouts at my mom
"Tell me what?" I ask nervously.
" We're not sure, no one really is. Last we heard of her was two months ago when her and the rest of her gang friends mugged someone."
I just died inside. No way they're talking about my goody two shoes, angelic Jenny.
"I guess you didn't tell him why either," Remarks Derek. "she did this after her parents were killed and she went to live with her Aunt Clare."
This is all my fault. I should have been here. If only In had been here.I stalk back to the truck and slam on the gas.
"Toby wait" cries my mother.
I drive to the spot I last remember being with her. The woods. That was our place. Our being her Derek and I. We came here after school, when we were bored or just for fun. It was like our secret hangout. Our secret place.
