Being alone isn't too bad you know, you get a lot of thinking done.

I have thought non stop about who might still be out there beyond this torn down town. Today is the day, the day I leave, I'm hoping to find socialisation somewhere along the way but most of my being knows that it is highly unlikely.

Getting up from my only wooden framed bed I make my way over to the chest of drawers placed strategically under the window. I pull all my shirts and jeans out of the draws and pick carefully the ones that I would take with me, taking them all would be a tad unpractical. They need to be hard wearing material, who knows what will happen to me out there. Out there. I've always wondered what would have come of my life if none of this had ever happened. A little over a year ago I was separated from the people I cared about most, left alone I was lovingly cared for by the owners of the corner shop just meters away from our house. But something happened between then and now for everyone to be gone, and I need to find out what.

Packing my backpack with a spare set of chosen clothes, five tins of food I've managed to save and a revolver I had managed to find in my fathers safe whilst searching the house for any clue as to where they were. Essentials like a torch, a map and money are obviously included. The weather has been decent these past couple of days, it should hold out in time for me to get some distance. Without electricity it's pretty hard maintaining electrical equipment, any phones, computers or tablets ran out weeks ago, all I have to go by is my wristwatch and the sun.

It may seen unbelievable that I am the only one here and honestly I wouldn't believe it either, the only way I can explain it is one night I went to bed then when I awoke everyone was gone. I have no idea where or why they went, nothing was left as a clue, did they get taken? Did they all just leave? I don't know the answer to this but I am going to find out.

Slinging my backpack onto one shoulder I headed for the long road leading out of my town, past the houses, past the school, past the memories of what this neighbourhood used to be. In all honesty, I'm not too sure what I'm looking for, answers yes but I need to take steps to get there, I'm hoping to find another town, I know there's one about an hour from here, maybe there will be civilians there. I know it's not an apocalypse, I know they haven't passed, but why was I left?

There's car left here, most are full of petrol or diesel, choosing the one with the keys left in the ignition I place my backpack on the seat and start up the car, at first it starts to cough but soon starts to run fairly smoothly. Pressing my foot onto the accelerator I start to move forwards, gliding down the dusty road I start to feel a sense of 'this is actually happening'. The trees glided past me as the wind blew through my hair, the sky peaking through the never ending branches. Half past two in the afternoon, my journey has now begun.

I carried on driving along the winding road until I see a road sign, New Hinsom up ahead. At last another town, I can see the buildings coming closer with each passing second. Pulling into a near by petrol station I climb out the car, quietly creeping towards the door, the bell rings as I enter. I can hear the sound of a nearby television. There's people here.

"Hello." I say, trying to catch the attention of the possible human behind the wall.

I hear the sound disappear and a chair scrapes across the floor, edging backwards I hide behind a nearby card stand. The door slowly opens and out walks a middle aged man, tall with a balding head.

"Hello. How may I help you?"

It's the first time I've heard a human voice speak to me in weeks,

"Wait, so you're still here? You're whole town is still here?"

His face turns from deadpan to confused at my question,

"Of course, why wouldn't I be here?"

"M-my whole town is gone, there's nobody there!"

My voice comes out rushed and full of air, panic starts to set it.

"Hey hey calm down alright, it's okay, come and sit."

Walking around the counter he points to the chair he previously occupied.

"Now let's calm down, my name is Zack, what's yours?"

His tone of voice slowly calming me down I open my mouth to answer,

"Ida. I named myself Ida."

"Ida? Well that's a beautiful name, you named yourself?"

Now this was going to be a difficult story to explain,

"I don't remember my name, I remember my face and my families faces but names and ages, I have no idea. I don't think anybody did."

His face set in a recognition of my frustration, how comes he knew who he was?

"Don't worry, I'm going to help you."

A/N Hello again, so this is my second chapter, it's a bit longer than the first one and contains a bit more background information. All towns represented here apart from London have just been random names that have come to mind, they could be real but I didn't google anything so yeah. So there are other towns that still have people, what do you thinks going on?
