One week earlier...

It had been a few days since Karina had gone to the police station and told Detective Ricketson the true events of the night Emily was murdered. It had been playing on her mind ever since it happened. She wasn't going to allow Hayley and her minions to shut her up anymore. Emily was her best friend and she owed it to her, to tell the truth. When Hayley and the girls had been called in for another interview, they had all stuck together and lied saying Karina had mental issues and liked reading crime novels and she had probably just dreamed it. Because there had been no evidence and no body, Detective Ricketson had let all the girls go. But not before Hayley had grabbed her around the arm and whispered in her ear.

"We agreed to not say anything. You'll pay for this bitch."

Karina had been left standing there physically shaken, however it had not gone unnoticed. Detective Ricketson had seen the exchange and was frowning as all the girls left the station.

It had been very quiet since then. No calls, no text messages from any of her so-called friends. Hayley was keeping them all on a tight leash. It was Saturday night and Karina had decided to make popcorn and watch a movie when there was a knock at her front door. She placed the remote on the coffee table and went to see who was there. Hayley, Kylie, and Tabitha stood staring at Karina through the glass. Karina didn't know if she wanted to open the door or not, but when Hayley gave her a shy smile, she decided it would be alright.

"Hey, Karina." The girls said together. Karina stared at them all, not smiling. They had made her out to be a lying crazy person to the detective and she did not appreciate it one bit.

"What are you doing here?" She asked them coldly. Kylie and Tabitha looked towards Hayley as usual. They wouldn't want to think for themselves, they might sprain a brain cell.

"We came to apologize." She said quietly. "I'm sorry I told the Detective you had mental problems and were lying. I just got so scared. Witnessing Emily being attacked like that and then all I could think about was what if the person saw us? We could be next. I was trying to protect you, Karina. I hope you can understand that."

"Protect me. That person attacked Emily. We don't know where she is or if she's alive or dead. We don't even know who this person was she was with. And as for if we were seen, I highly doubt it. He was too busy with Emily to notice anyone else. The police need to know the truth so they can start looking for her."

Hayley stood with her arms crossed over her chest, a frown on her face.

"I'm sure she'll turn up." Hayley said sarcastically.

"I'm sure she will. I'm just worried about what state she will be in." Hayley looked towards the other girls, they were all still standing outside. Kylie wrapped her arms around herself and shivered.

"It's really cold out here Karina, can we come in?" Karina took in a deep breath and stepped aside to allow the girls entry. They all stood by the fire and began warming themselves up.

"Do you mind if I use your toilet?" Hayley asked her.

"Sure. You know where it is." She opened her arm out towards the hallway entrance, indicating the way. Hayley took off down the hall.

"So how have you been?" Kylie asked her.

"How do you think?" She said as she looked around the room. She really wasn't in the mood for this bullshit the girls were playing on her.

"Did you hear that Rhys and I have made it official?" She smiled a wide toothy grin at Karina. Her excitement was evident. She'd had feelings for Rhys ever since he moved into town a year ago, but other than the occasional date here and there, Rhys didn't really seem interested in her.
