"Ophelia! Sweetheart? Are you dressed? Can you get the door? It's the Lovegoods!"
"Did you say the Lovegoods were here? Mum, I'm in my jams! Why didn't you tell me they were coming?" I could feel my face getting warmer. I ran from the parlor to my bedroom upstairs to my room to change into something decent.
"Okay, I guess I have to get the door then." I heard my mum mumble.
I very quickly changed from my red pajama pants and cami top into my go-to rush outfit. I changed into a red and white striped shirt with an overalldress over and black stockings under. I threw on some light blush, some clear lipgloss, and some mascara. I finished brushing out my hair right as mum called from downstairs-
"'Phelia! Are you coming, or must you avoid our guests? You're being a very rude hos-"
"Mum, I'm right here," I replied standing on the second to last step of the staircase. Luna had a half-smile on her face already. Her pale skin was already a little pink, but I'm not so sure why that would be.
I walked over to Xenophilius and Luna, greeted them with hugs, and walked them over into the parlor.
"Ophelia, supper won't be ready for a while. Xenophilius and I need to speak about a work matter. Why don't you and Luna go upstairs to your room and hangout? Like girls do? I mean, you two can stay down here I guess, but I presume it's rather boring to sit and listen to parents talk about work of all things." my mum said.
"Luna, what do you think?" I whispered over to her. Almost immediately she responded with;
"Well, your mum does have a point, it would be quite boring. So, I think we should go upstairs." I was hoping she would say that.
I showed her the way to my room, and I had to tell her that she didn't need to have her shoes on, but she insisted on wearing them because she was a guest.
"Oh well maybe I will I'll take off my shoes once I've come over a few times," she said, surely as though she would appear rude to take them off. "Ophelia, can I speak with you, about last night?" "
"Oh my. She was going to ask about me kissing her on the cheek. What if I made her uncomfortable? What if she is straight, or she has feelings for Ginny?" I thought. I was so scared of what she might say. I sat down at my desk and gave her the look to continue. It took her a second like she was waiting for me to say proper English. Of course, I couldn't. I felt as though I had taken Veritaserum, but I know I haven't. There is something about Luna, where no matter how long you've known her, you could tell her anything. No matter how serious or embarrassing, you just couldn't lie to her. I could never tell you why, or how, but you couldn't. See, I've had one conversation with her, before today, and here we are.
"Well, I- I uhm I really liked that." I just simply melted. "I mean- who wouldn't? A kiss, even just on the cheek, from you?" From me?
"Luna. I'm not that special."
"But Ophelia, you are." I could sense a but already. "But-"
"Ophelia, Luna? Dinner is about to be ready can you come help set the table please?" said my mom from the kitchen.
"Shit" I whispered. We both started downstairs. Mum had already been pulling out the plates and dinnerware for us to put out, so picked them up and started on the table.
"Luna, what're you going to say?"
"Oh, it's not that big of a deal. But I don't want to tell you here, because of your mum and my father. I'll tell you after supper." she replied. I couldn't wait that long. Knowing my mum, dinner could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours.
After we set the table, Luna and I found our seats at the table, making sure we next to each other, with our parents across. Soon, mum brought out a hot-plate with a greek dish called Souvlaki, which is grilled meat on a skewer and can be everything from pork, chicken, lamb, beef, and vegetables. It's not my favorite, but my mum loves it and it's something she can make easily.
"So Ophelia, what do you do for fun?" said Xenophilus, after a few minutes of silence at dinner.
"Oh, well I like to read, and I like drawing, or studying muggles. Luna, what do you like to do?" I replied, after a second of thought.
"Similarly, I like to read and draw as well, but I'd rather read on mythical creatures, like Nargles, instead of muggles," she said, quite shyer than a few minutes ago.
Luna talked with my mum for a few minutes while I talked to her dad. Our conversation intertwined a few times, but after supper and everything, Mr. Lovegood and mum started talking on their own again, and Luna and I went back into my room.
"So, Lovegood, what were you gonna tell me?" I said, pretending as though I had some confidence, or that I had taken some liquid luck.
"Well uhm, I did like that moment, and I have grown fond of you over the past few hours I have spent with you, including last night at the party, of course. But, even if I have grown to like you friendly, I don't know you very well, and of the curse, I want to get to know you. Do you think we could maybe get closer as friends? And see where that takes us?" She asked. I felt like a weight was lifted off my chest.
"Oh my goodness. Yes, of course, that's okay. I would've asked the same thing." I replied, awkwardly chuckling.
"Oh gosh. I was so worried. Oh, this is good."
We talked for about 45 minutes, nonstop. It was so odd, I had only met her, truly, yesterday, and yet we can already talk for hours.
"Oh crap. I forgot to write Ginny back. Oh, that reminds me, would you like to stay at the burrow the last night or 2 before we head to the platform with me?"
"Funny you ask, I was about to tell you the same thing. And please, write her back before she gets worried."
"Sounds like a plan then."
Knock Knock
It was Mr. Lovegood and mum.
"Sweetheart, it's time to go." Mr. Lovegood said from the other side of the door. Luna got up from the bed relatively quickly, until she realized she had forgotten something.
"Ophelia, I must've forgotten to give you and Ms. Vulos this at supper." She reaches into her pocket and pulled out two handmade necklaces. The pendant wasn't a normal charm, it was a cork- from- butterbeer? "They keep away the nargles. Some say nargles aren't real, but father and I think otherwise. May I?" She asked. I nodded and pulled my curly brown hair up, away from my neck. She clasped the necklace on, handed me another one to give to mum, and gave me a hug before rushing out into the hall for her father. "I'll see you on August 30th? At the burrow?" she said smiling.
"Of course you will," I replied, feeling the blushing sensation once again. She and her father were outside and gone almost as fast as they arrived.
