The continuous drone of the rain fogged her brain. She was watching the translucent beads of water race down the skylight to the finish line at the seam of the window and the house.
"Why does the rain get to go places and I don't?", she groaned.
Jannie rolled over to her side. The rain started to annoy her with it's freedom to go where ever it wanted and when ever it wanted. It might just be water but it seemed to her like it was a lot more interesting than her. She heard a crunch from below her and realized that she had literally just crushed her own hopes and dreams. Even though these hopes and dreams were just the various pamphlets Professor Jamison handed out about the trip to Italy. At least she could still make herself laugh.
The rain let up a bit so she could hear her parents moving around in the kitchen making supper. She inhaled deeply and got up and swung her legs around so she could get up and close the door she left open ever so slightly. She felt her gut skin when she got to her feet. She really believed her mother would be ecstatic that she had this opportunity to broaden her horizons. But unfortunately her mom thought quite the opposite of it. Maybe Jannie could work herself up to stick up for her right to travel the world freely.
She took a deep breath and opened her door even more, instead of closing it like she originally wanted. She could only hear her mother's and step-father's mumbled words and clattering of pots and pans. Jannie wondered if they were still talking about controlling her freedom. As a mother she only wants Jannie to be safe, but you know how young adults think that their parents only goal is to ruin their lives.
Jannie closed her eyes for a few moments to think about why her mom wouldn't want her to go abroad to somewhere she always wanted to go. Then it hit her.
