It was a hot Californian summer day, June 24th, 2020, to be exact. Violet and I were sitting at the bar in the famous Whiskey A-Go-Go, it was my 21st birthday and it was a total drag. The Whiskey seemed lifeless, the drinks weren't that good, the music wasn't either. If this was the 80s it would be full of life, "I'm so sorryyy" Violet said holding my arm "why are you sorry?" I said laughing, "this place is so boring, not what I was expecting. Plus it's your birthday, it's supposed to be fun" she sighed "Viv, it's okay. I knew it wasn't going to be like how it used to" I said trying to hide my sadness" and also I'm just ready to go back to the hotel," "okay let's go," Violet said. We collected our things and headed out, we were walking down the street, which was oddly quiet when we passed an alley with a big blue and purple light radiating from it. "Kayla, what is that?" Viv said wearily "I don't know Viv," I said with a slight interest in my tone "should we check it out?" I said looking to see if anybody else was around "what?! are you crazy? we don't know what that is!" Viv said looking at me like I was crazy, "oh cmon Viv, this whole trip has been a drag. What's the worst that could happen, there could be like some big rager in the alley" I said laughing, I really didn't know what was going to happen or what the light was but anything was better than how this birthday was going. Viv sighed, "fine, let's go" with that we walked cautiously down the alley there was a left turn at the end. We took the turn and were met with a big blue and purple whirlpool looking hole, "Woah" Viv and I said in sync, "what is this thing?" Viv said wide-eyed "I don't know, it looks like a swimming pool, but it's not," I said moving towards it before Violet pulls me back, "Don't get too close it might suck you in!" she said scoldingly "okay mom," I said rolling my eyes, she scoffed "I'm serious Kayla" "I'm going to stick my hand in it and see what happens," I said as she scoffed once again and I gave her a glare, "Fine," she said defeated. I walked to it and stuck my hand in it, my hand went right through and I pulled it back quickly. "dude we have to go in," I said quickly "you're funny," Viv said laughing sarcastically "I'm serious Viv, what do we have to lose?" "our lives?!" she exclaimed. I rolled my eyes, "well I'm going in" I said walking closer about to jump in as I heard Violet sigh "wait! I'm coming with you" she said as I stopped my movement "good" I said nervously as she gripped my hand and said, "let's go". We jumped into the hole and fell onto the street, the same street we were on before but everything looked retro.
I stood up brushing myself off as Viv did the same, I looked around for my phone but I couldn't find it. "Viv, wheres your phone?" I asked nervously "in my bag, why?" "because I can't find mine," I said as she looked through her bag and her eyes got big "what?" I exclaimed "I can't find mine either" I sighed as I looked around, I noticed that the streets seemed more vivid and seemed more alive, the billboards looked older, everything looked older, but I knew this decade. It was the decade that I held so dear to my heart and the decade that made me into the person I am. The music, the style, the movies, and most importantly Motley Crue. "Viv, I think I know where we are," I said still looking around "yeah we're in California but it looks old," she said looking around too "yeah we're in California, but 1980s California," I said smiling ear to ear, she looked at me like she didn't believe me "yeah right," she said rolling her eyes "I'm serious, look around" she did as I said, "Oh my god," she said as I nodded with a lot of enthusiasm "we're in the 80s" "we're in the 80s," I said still smiling, "let's go check it out, dude" I ran back off towards the Whiskey with Violet not far behind. I pulled open the door and it was like my whole world was complete, the bar was fuller and everyone was rocking. I sat down at a table and Violet sat beside me "this is crazy, it's so different from earlier" she said looking around "I know that's what kicks ass dude," I looked around as well and took in everything, I wanted to know what year it was so I called over a waitress "excuse me but what is today?" I asked politely, she responded with a smile, "June 24th, sugar" "this is going to sound weird but what year?" I asked taking two drinks off her tray and giving her a tip "1986" she said looking at me like I was weird "okay thank you" I smiled as she left "so if today is still the same, then your birthday isn't ruined!" Violet exclaimed, "I know this is probably the best birthday ever!" I said excitedly but Violet wasn't paying attention to me I was about to say something before she said "holy shit" as she looked behind me with wide-eyes, "what?" I said turning around but when I did, I saw them. Motley fucking Crue.
