Ana POV
Darkness consumes me as I'm slowly walking down the dock. Each plank creaking in a different octave from all of the stories acted out upon them over the years. The small amount of light that I have to guide me flickering to almost none. I finally make it to the end of the dock. Vast dark waves crashing against the old wooden posts as the wind howls sending chills down my spine. Deciding to sit legs dangling over the black water under the midnight moon. Clouds slowly departing making room for the moon to shine in all of its peaceful glory. Thinking to myself how vaguely familiar and comforting it all is beginning to become. Falling to my side, I slowly drift away to the waves telling their tales of old, as my eye lids begin closing. Before I even realize that someone is approaching me, I'm out. Exhaustion has taken over my body and mind....
I feel my eyes start to awaken as the cool morning breeze covers my body in an unwanted blanket of chills. Everywhere except for my legs for some reason. Opening my eyes to sit up I feel something falling off of me. I reach out to grab it, snatching it out of the air just before it hits the water! " A jacket?" I exclaimed. Thinking it must've been a friendly gesture from one of the fishermen, I quickly brush off all of the different scenarios racing through my brain.
Calling out to Harold as he is docking his boat after fishing through the 'Golden hour' as he calls it. Really it's just 4-5 AM, but I get what he means it's so quiet on the water, within the whole town really, and the sun is just barely making itself shown giving everything a sort of golden glow to it. Harold stretches his hand out to me as I help him off the boat. If anyone knows who left this jacket here it would be Harold he's here first thing every morning. "Hey Harold! Did you happen to see who covered me with this jacket?".
"Well let's see I've been here since about 3AM Miss Ana, and I haven't seen or heard a single soul, not even Mr. Goodman." Mr. Goodman is the man who owns this pier, and well a lot of the stores in this town. He usually likes to walk through the docks in the morning just to make sure things are business as usual and nothing fishy is going on. (Pun intended.)
I guess everyone sleeps in sometimes even Mr. Goodman. Struggling to brush off the events of the morning. I begin my daily routine. Walking back up the pier to the road, and then a few blocks over to the parking lot of the gym I'm kind of a member at. They are nice enough to let me park my car here until I can afford to get it worked on. I'm not really much for working out, but I help them out with their morning cleaning for access to the gym while I'm between places. Soo basically for the bathroom and the shower... Now I know what you are thinking...Why doesn't she just sleep in her car? Well I don't exactly want them to see me sleeping in front of their business. Nobody knows I'm homeless, and I'd like to keep it that way.
They've already shown me so much kindness as it is... I'd hate to be an annoyance. Plus I have a good thing going at the dock! I only sleep for a couple of hours unguarded and alone, then Harold is there to make sure I'm safe, and wake me up before Mr. Goodman shows up. Sometimes he will even bring me breakfast. Harold is honestly the closest thing to family that I have left in this world. I will be forever grateful to him... As I approach my car I pull out my bag of toiletries, and head in to the gym for my morning routine.
"Good morning Mrs. Haven I'll be right out to help you!" I said while rushing past into the bathroom head held down praying that nobody can tell I've just woken up from sleeping on the dock all night. I think they already know, but I'm just to ashamed to tell them that I'm homeless. I know pathetic right? I feel awful keeping secrets especially with how much they've helped me, but I will cross that bridge when I'm ready. Quickly I throw my clothes to the ground, and jump into the shower. Turning the water a little to hot and gently washing all of my stress away even if only for a little while.
Jumping out of the shower after what seems like a half hour I begin to dry off. Wrapping a towel around my body just big enough to barely cover everything. Starting to dry my hair as I face myself in the mirror "... I look so tired.. So blah...I...." Not even realizing someone is in the stall next to me changing I jump at the sight of the person coming out of the stall. "Holy shit you scared me Amber!... I didn't realize you were in here!" Amber is Mrs. Havens niece they pretty much stay to themselves except for Mrs. Haven who I help out around the place, but even so she's still pretty reserved. "Calm down Ana, and you might want to close your mouth before you catch flies darling." Amber retorted.
Now I'm used to Amber being bratty, but today it kind of got to me. Choosing to just try to ignore the whole situation I roll my eyes and go back to styling my hair. Instead of leaving like I figured she would, I heard her foot steps as she approached me from behind and took a seat on the bench. She sent me a sort of seductive wink.. It's just so unlike her, I shake it off thinking maybe I'm just imagining things. Noticing she was engrossed in whatever was on her phone, I began to take in her features.
Thinking about it I've never really paid much attention, but she is actually quite stunning. She stands at about 5'7", curvy but still very much slender, probably because she works out unlike me. She has long red uncontrollably curly hair that if straightened would probably stretch down her lower black. Piercing green eyes with prominent ,yet soft features you could never mistake. Forgetting where I am I continue to get lost as I take in her every curve and angle.
Looking up to her face through the mirror I see a devious smile spread across Amber's plump bubblegum pink lips as she laughs. Her face looking ever so mischievous. Trembling at the fact I've been caught words are just beyond me so I continue to stare frozen in fear. Suddenly Amber stands walking right up behind me as I'm frozen with fear for what's to come next. She whispers in my ear... "Don't be scared Ana... I don't bite." Letting a giggle pass her lips as she strutted away. I was so distraught this is the most conversation I've ever had with this girl in my life and I've known her since I was in grade school. Even though we didn't attend the same school, me and her brother were very close at one point. He was like a brother to me..
Quickly getting dressed, I can't stop thinking about the way she looked and talked towards me. I'm honestly just baffled... uncontrollably blushing. I leave the locker room ready to start the morning cleaning of this place. Mrs. Haven waves me down to give me my list of duties for the day. Hopefully, I won't run into "her," but that hope fades as fast as it came as I see her running on the treadmill while listening to loud rock music. This is going to be a very long morning. I thought to myself as I popped my earbuds in and began to clean the gym. How can this day get any weirder?
After what felt like forever due to my anxiety I was finally done cleaning. Grabbing my bag off of the floor I practically sprinted out of the building after thanking Mrs. Haven for the day. I'm almost to my car then all of the sudden "Oh shit look out ! ...ow..." I exclaimed as I fell to the ground. I feel so dizzy .. what happened...."Why can't you just look where you are going!? I mean what are you blind!? Ugh... Come on..." Not knowing what's going on I feel as though I'm being lifted off of the ground, but before I can protest, I'm out cold.
