Today was the big day. The excitement was making the hairs on my arms stand on ends. I had literally been counting down the minutes for three weeks. Weird right?
"Katie?" Sarah called from the kitchen, she was in there cooking up a storm for our guests that come on the third week every month.
The guests are actually my brother Jack and his mates, they're on tour so much that we barely see them anymore. It's sad really, but it's also really amazing.
"Yeah?" I asked as I walked into the small kitchen of our small apartment. Sarah stood at the stove stirring something in a pot.
Sarah is my best friend, has been for two and a half years now. We met in our senior year of high school and have been friends since. So naturally, with the two of us going off to college, we moved into a small rental apartment that was fit for us.
"What time will they be here?" The short blonde girl asked turning around to look at me.
"Four o'clock I'm pretty sure." I smiled at her. She grinned a little too cheerfully, I knew what it meant. She was excited to see Shawn.
"Good, it should be ready by then. Will they be hungry?" She asked turning back to the pot that was steaming like mad.
"When are they not?" I chuckled, walking across the hall and into the bathroom.
Looking into the mirror I see all of my brother in myself. With the exception I my long hair and my girlish looks, I am a spitting image of him. Dark brown hair, tanned skin, slim figure. I am all my brother. God I missed him.
I undressed and got into the shower, letting the hot water belt into my back. As I washed myself I started singing 'Wild Life' rapping every word.
When I stepped out the roles were cold under my feet and the foolish air nipped at my skin. So I dried and dressed myself for the occasion, wearing only shorts and a tank. They wouldn't mind.
"Jesus, you could fill an ocean with the amount of water you would use when you have a shower. You were in there for three quarters of an hour." Sarah laughed lowly, shaking her head.
"That just made time go a lot quicker. Now there's only an hour and a half till they'll be here." I laughed with her and then walked into the lounge where she was spread across our sofa watching some TV show that looked completely ridiculous.
"What the hell is this junk? It's going to fry your brain!" I said shaking my head at the show in front of me.
*one hour later*
We sat in front of the TV longer than intended and now Sarah was freaking out about the food l and I was running around straightening up the house. It took twenty minutes for me to finish but Sarah was still in the kitchen. I slumped onto the couch smelling of sweat, then my phone rang from in my pocket.
"Hello?"
"Katelyn Grace Gilinsky?" A familiar voice said into the phone.
"Yes. How may I be of service?" I said in mock tone knowing exactly who was on the other end.
"Katelyn, I'm afraid there has been some damage done on you nature strip. You might want to come and check it out before it gets worse." He replied in a tone that made him sound posh.
"I'll be put to check it in a second. Bye now." I said hanging up and then I shot up from the couch and bolted through the door.
I found their tour bus parked in our driveway behind mine and Sarah's car. And I found them standing around waiting for me.
"Jack!" I ran over to my brother and jumped into his arms, clinging to him like my life depended on it.
"Is Sarah, uh, inside?" Shawn asked shyly after Jack had put me down and I was greeting everyone else.
I rolled my eyes playfully, "Go on in and see her. She's missed you." I say ushering him towards the door.
"Thanks Katie." He said hugging me quickly then shooting inside to see his girlfriend.
"How's Magcon going anyway?" I turned to the other boys.
"Grand! There are so many wonderful people in the world." Jack replied for everyone, all of them muttering their agreement after he said it.
"None more wonderful than me, I hope." I said cheerfully laughing.
"Definitely not." They all said at once, making me laugh.
"Didn't think so. Come on inside boys." I chuckled extending my hand toward the front door. "Food will be ready soon." And with that they all ran inside.
