East Dean, 2014

Rhiannon walked up to the front door of Birling Manor and put her hand on the copper knocker.

"Rae, are you sure you want to do this?", Ben said in a hushed tone.

"No, of course not,", she hisses back at him "would you be ready if you're about to meet your real parents for the first time in your life? Well, would you?!"
He furrowed his eyebrows at her like he always does when she unnecessarily addresses her anger towards him.

"You're being mean for no reason, Rae. Again. You know, I could be sitting home right now binge watching Adventure Time instead of driving your butt across country in this ridiculous stormy weather. For the third time this month! You know how much gasoline I have to pay? My parents are going to kill me if they'd found out about our secret road trips. Do you know what this means, Rhiannon Abrianna Mills? I'm going to be poor forever, because they are obviously going to disown me. Oh my god, how am I going to pay my future children's clothes? And then my...", Ben rambled on.

Rhiannon rolled her eyes, she was starting to get annoyed and she grabbed Ben by his shoulders.
"Benny, focus. I am doing this. I am going to knock on that door. I will bust it down if I must, this time I'm going to get my answers."
Her lips were pursed into a tight line, she gave him a quick nod and abruptly turned around to put her hand back on the knocker.

Ben sighed and grabbed her trembling hand to give her a comforting squeeze.
"Thanks for coming along,", she smiled nervously at him.
He winked at her and returned her smile. "Now, knock, for heaven's sake!"
