"Life flashes before your eyes,"
"You want to leave, don't you?"
A voice nagged at the end of each of Harper's hairs at the back of her neck, her shaky breaths had come out like smoke in the cold drenched day. Heavy, thick, mist had washed over the jagged ledge that the twelve year old was standing over.
"Of course I do..." The child's voice unsteadily replied, was she really going to do this? Was this becoming free of the prison she has been locked in for so long or is this running away from her problems, there was only one way to find out. She slowly stepped closer to the edge, her dirty, black, non-branded shoes had scraped against the pebbles under her.
"We don't have much time," Wayne's voice had echoed through Harpers ears, his voice was the type of voice that sent chills down your spine due to how endlessly freezing it was, the raspy edges at the end of his sharp words would cut your own throat so terribly clean that you had no choice but to agree with him. The drenched little girl had felt his agonizing amber eyes on her back, that alone wanted her to leap gratefully down the deep abyss into mist although something was keeping her from doing so.
What was stopping her from doing something that she had longed to do for so long? Was it the fear of jumping into the unknown, the fear that maybe she would be sent into the chains of hell, Harper had doubted that she could be sent to hell, after all the shit she had gone through already, now that she thinks about it hell would be a breeze. Perhaps god would take pity on her, no that's even worse than going to hell. Imagine, the most powerful being in the world looking down on you and pitying you as though your a no good deaf, blind, mute mole. No one wants a no good mole, but no one wants Harper, god probably doesn't even want Harper, if she's not good enough for god than the devil would certainly despise her... then she would be all alone, that isn't new... that isn't unknown... for some unpleasant reason Harper feels as though that's how things should be, all alone in the eye of the hurricane, not getting in anyone's way anymore.
The clatter of rain and deafened everything else, she remembered once that her dad had told her how much he loved rain, because one little droplet can simply sooth your soul, while many of them can drown your whole heart. Oh how much she missed Dad. Maybe it was Dad that was pulling her back, even if he's hundreds of miles away that invisible string between father and daughter was slowly but surely pulling her back, but in the situation right now it can be the string that her corpse will be hanging on.
What will Dad's reaction be? No... wrong question, why should Harper care? She will no longer be a burden to him, Mom, her siblings, and even that cat that she met on the street once. (Hopefully that cat is ok) Just because Harper doesn't want to care doesn't mean that she won't, will they even notice that the bed next to theirs is empty? Of course they will, they will be dancing in pure joy singing, "she's gone! She's gone! She's finally gone! The worst child in the whole universe is gone!"
Maybe the private school kids would miss her, they always saw each other before school. Imagine, waking up in the morning in your bazillion dollar mansion, eating breakfast made by Gordon Totally Not Ramsey himself then coming to school, you look around for your punching bag but they aren't their that day, wouldn't you be sad?
"Harper it's now or never," the slick voice of Wayne had slithered and pinned its fangs to Harpers ears, she had forgotten the ghostly like male had stood behind her, his intimidating presence was absent in Harpers mind.
"You you care if I died?"
"Not at all, I know that you are free, what more could anyone ask for, now are you goin to finally do it?"
No words could have wrote the actions that Harper had done, so she simply had said nothing. Actions speak louder than words after all."To bad that wasn't the case,"
