I walked into the school as my best friend, or rather my only friend, Mijung, came into my view, blocking the school's hallway.

"Happy 2019, Hyejin! We're finally back, and the scent of bad cologne from boys trying to impress us girls is back! You excited?" she exclaimed, whipping out her phone taking a photo of the both of us, labelling it as the first selfie of the school year.

"More than ready," I said flashing a smile. It was our second year of high school. I was readier than I could ever be. Specifically for one reason.

"So let me guess, you're gonna try out the basketball team again?" Mijung said, as if she had read my mind. "Seriously, Hyejin? They already told you that you were a girl and you couldn't join. Even if they allowed you, you would be too short!"

Mijung was right, they rejected me just because I was a girl and because of my height. They only had a boys team, unlike in middle school, where there were teams of both genders or both genders combined a team. But despite the conditions, I was still going to try.

"They haven't seen me play before, I'm sure that they will accept me once I show them how good I am." I said confidently. Mijung simply sighed. "Fine, I'll support you. But don't come crying to me if you get rejected again." "Mijung, you're the best!" I cheered, hugging her tightly.

The bell soon rang and it was time to head to class. The walls were filled with posters promoting the clubs. They had drawing, music, dancing, science and more clubs. Of course, the only one I was interested in was the basketball ones. It even put in bold words that only boys were allowed, but it didn't matter.

No matter what, I was going to try.

All I could do wait for class to end to go to the club.

I couldn't blame Hyejin for trying so hard to get into the club. She dedicated her whole life to basketball, and even started at a young age. Hyejin always won every match that she took part in when we were in middle school. She literally had no emotions after being rejected and cried herself to sleep last year. The devastation lasted for a solid 2 months before she opened up to everyone else.

When class ended, Hyejin was the first to bolt out of the class and headed to the basketball court. I had always admired her determination since we've met. She never fails to amaze me. Even if she doesn't make it this year, I'm pretty sure she'll try again next year. All I can really do right now is to pray that she gets in.

Good luck, Jung Hyejin.
