***Bianca Solace would be lying if she were to say this old barn didn't give her the creeps. It seemed to groan and creak in a way that she didn't believe buildings could. The barn itself was most likely originally made for animals to be kept inside, but some mortals had furnished it so it was a house now.
Charlie's dad, Percy Jackson, had found this place for them to stay in while they were going to Milby High School in a small town in New Orleans in order to find demigods that were attracting monsters to it.
But, she had to make sure and smack him by the time they make it back to Camp Half-Blood because he didn't have to pick such a remote and scary place to stay. Or, maybe she could Iris-Message her father Nico to slap him for her. She knew he'd been wanting to do that for quite some time due to Percy constantly bringing up the, "since I'm not your type" comment.
Although, at the moment she really couldn't care less about Iris-Messaging anyone because the creaky sounding footsteps were getting closer and closer to her closed temporary bedroom door.
She sat up in the bed as quietly as possible, which deemed to be impossible since the old springs in the mattress decided to complain at her sudden movements. She grabbed her arrow and bow, readying herself to fire at whoever or whatever had decided to sneak inside.
The door creaked open and if it wasn't for Festus' high pitched yelp when he saw the gleam of her arrowhead through the dark, his heart would have been impaled by now.
She immediately lowered the bow towards her bed, glaring daggers at the black haired boy standing at the door, fiddling with a wrench. "What the heck, Festus?" She hissed at the son of Leo and Calypso. "Who in their right mind sneaks around in a house at this time of night?"
He only sent her a crooked smile and stepped further into the room, the old dusty floorboards groaning underneath his weight. "Well, if you haven't noticed yet Killer, I am not right in the head at all. So this is really typical behavior for me."
Her blue eyes rolled at the nickname he had given her years ago when she was thirteen and shot a monster through the chest with an arrow. She could only thank her grandfather, Apollo, for giving her such a good skill with a bow.
"Well, you could be lying dead on the floor right now if it weren't for my good night-sight," she said with a huff as she set her bow and arrow back onto the floor next to her dagger. "What do you need anyway?"
Festus scratched the back of his head, a nervous habit he had picked up, and avoided her sharp gaze. "I, uh, couldn't sleep. To be honest this place is creeping me the hell out and every time I'm nearly asleep it makes some scary noise."
Bianca frowned in understanding, but couldn't understand why Festus had wandered into her room instead of Charlie's. "And, how do you think that I'm exactly going to help you with that?" She asked with a fine-trimmed eyebrow raised. "This place is freaking me out too, so if anything, all I'm going to do is make your own fear worse."
Festus shrugged again and shuffled up closer to her bed, his socks catching up dust and hair from the floor. "No you won't," he argued softly. "I just need to not feel so... alone in that huge room. Just for tonight, I promise!"
Bianca sighed in defeat, knowing she could do nothing to change the hazel eyed boy's mind. Once it was set on something, there was no way to change it back. Unless you brainwashed him or something, of course. She scooted over in her bed, her mattress whining again as she did so, and patted the empty, warm space beside her. "Here. But only for tonight," she said sternly.
The sixteen year old boy beamed and jumped inside of the bed quickly, pulling the quilt over him, up to his chin. "Thank you, Killer. I promise to not do anything weird to you while you sleep," he added on playfully.
She felt her eyes roll again before she flopped back down onto her side, her back facing the smiling boy beside her, and let her heavy eye lids slip shut. "Whatever. As if you would," she muttered under her breath, body sagging as she finally, finally relaxed onto the mattress.
She could hear Festus chuckle beside her, but it didn't fully register until a few seconds later. A small smile curled over her own lips when he passed her a quick goodnight before rolling over as well and snores quickly filled the large, cold room. Bianca allowed herself to slip further into sleep, counting sheep with each loud snore that escaped his mouth. Within a few moments, her mind was filled with sweet dreams of home.
