Prologue

I remember being so very young when this all started. I was maybe six my brother, Marcus was only three moons old at the time and my sister, Isle wasn't even one. My parents did drugs, about every kind their favorite? Heroine. They would always neglect us. I ended  up feeding, clotting and bathing my siblings. But it was for the best. I had to teach them both how to use the bathroom because our parents wouldn't teach them so I had to become  their parents now. We was a pour family, most of are meals came from the school program, the rest I'd gather up any lose change I would find in streets or in the couch.

I remember when I stared third year. Our school was poor, in the middle of a gang neighborhood. It was underfunded and had no update  materials. It barely had desk, so the kids from mooncate up to third year had desk everyone else sat on the floor. It was stressful, Marcus was a nervous wreck because of all the shootings, police raids, and killings that was in our neighborhood. I had to to show him to his classroom, after Isle, when we got their he panicked and cried hugging me tightly."Nooo! Brother don't leave me please!" Marcus cried with tears in his eyes "Brother, it will be fine, baby Isle did it. I know you can too, " I replied trying to get him to calm down. "Plus, the whole class is staring"

"I-Isle just w-went to mooncare, she's not in First year. The kids will pick on me..."

"Look," I looked him in the eyes "if anyone  hurts you, you can do two things, punch them," I showed him how to ball up his fist "or call me," I handed him a walkie-talkie." He's eyes lit up a bit. Marcus was small most of his life so any things was four times bigger than him. After I convinced him I hugged him and watched him walk into class as I went to mine thirty minutes late.

I shyly opened my classroom door and went insidetryingto hide the class as I tried to rush to my seat until my teacherstopped me and made me stand in front of the entireclass. "Mr Declan is it?" She said with her long nose, when I first saw her I thought she was a witch. "Yes, I'm Lionel Declan, I'm very sorry I was late" I apologized

"Why was you late? Its the first day, didn't your parents show you the classroom?"

"I'm very sorry Ms Witch but my parents car broke down and had to walk all the wa-"

"Witch?!" The whole class giggled

"Yes, Witch because your long nose is a few inches in front of my face it seems like and all those beautiful marks and stuff I thought you was a witch"

"I never seen such a disrespectful little brat! Go to the  principle's office!" She shouted with the  whole class laughing at me as I walked out.

I was in the principle's office, and I didn't really care, I always ended up in here about every week. A nice lady  walked up to me and handed me an granola bar then sat next to me. I quickly put the bar in my backpack. "Why not eat it now? I can hear your stomach growling all the way in my office" she asked concerned.

"I must split it between my siblings." I answered

"Siblings?"

"Yes, Brother Marcus was why I was late, I had to drop him off at his classroom, he was too scared to go in"

"Why didn't your parents do it?"

I stayed quite. I guess that's how she put everything together. "Alright, let's go somewhere with less people." She was the school consular I told her everything about my house and everything else. She was surprised that this has been going on for years and no one noticed. She set me up for a school meal program after I convinced her that my family must stay together.

Later after I returned to my classroom their was a lock down because of gang violence that caused a mass shouting. Marcus was crying to me on my walkie-talkie. I rushed to Marcus classroom, because his classroom was at the back of the school where you can see all the action meaning he was the one in the most danger, Isle classroom was in the basement, she was less likely to get hurt. While everyone was under their desk crying and screaming I ran out if the classroom. Gunshots broke the windows and other supplies but I got shot  in my left arm but I kept running and got to Marcus classroom. I kicked open his classroom door and barricaded the class and ran to Marcus hugging him tightly. The Mockrian swat and to come an released everyone to a safe place. "Help! Help! My brother bleeding!!" Marcus cried acting as if I was dead. A nurse came and bandage my arm. I tried to convince them I was fine but I couldn't.

After that I got Isle and went home. I told them to go in their room. Mom was high on the couch on her twelth bottle of alcohol. Dad was passed out on the table with his cigarette burning in his hand. I put an ash tray where the ashes will fall off the cigarette then I stole a large bag of chips off the table trying not to wake him. He's eyes snapped open once he heard the bag crinkle. He grabbed my shirt collar and threw me against the wall. "What are you doing boy?!?!" He shouted at me I can smell  the cigarette on his breathe. "My siblings are hungry" I replied

He lifted me be my neck to his height which was seven feet nine inches. "What's the rule around here?!" He asked

"Never touch dad's stuff"

"Then why you do it?!"

"I told you! Marcus and Isle are hungry, we haven't at all day"

He punched me across the face causing my nose to bleed. "Don't disobey me again!" He threw me to the floor. I rushed to our room as Marcus and Isle hide in the corner of the room. "Don't worry," I said  making the seventeen moons old mattress for them then took the granola bar out of my backpack and split it for the two of them. "Why won't you eat?" Isle asked "then their won't be any for you two, enough, its already late. Let's get to bed." And we went to sleep with the sounds of sirens.
