Just Another Day

Zeke and I got to the big, empty space surrounded by trees in the middle of the woods. It's where we go everyday to practice. The wind was blowing today, and it was kinda chilly but we decided to go anyway. We went to stand in the middle of the clearing to look at all the targets. Most of them were split down the middle, but some had small spots with these little lines coming from them, showing the little shock it gave them. I don't know exactly what to call it, but when I said I was something else completely, I meant a red with abilities. I don't know what to call my ability, but lighting bolts or electricity or something can come out my hands. It was weird when I first found out, I think I was 13. I was helping Dad build a small table, he tries to sell those for a little extra cash.

"Aspen, for God's sake I've told you how to use the freaking thing 85 times, figure it out!"

"I apologize for not being an all knowing God of table making." I looked over to Dad, to see just how bad it was that I said that. Pretty bad.

"Aspen Ava, if you did not want to help, you didn't have to. If you're going to do it, do it right!"

He middle named me, he's not in the mood to deal with my crap, I'm not in the mood to deal with his, it'd probably be better for me to leave."You know what, fine! I'll go hang out with Zeke instead."

Why did that conversation make me so mad? I dropped the tool I was holding, and turned and ran to find him, I had already had a tough day and for some unearthly reason that pushed me over the edge. I kept pumping my legs until I got to his house, which was a good five minutes if you were running. As soon as I ran up to the front of his house, he saw me with tears streaming down my face. His eyebrows furrowed in worry and confusion as he yelled something to his mom and ran down to meet me.

"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked, his voice dripping with concern.

"I don't e-even know. N-nothing is wrong, I just can-can't stop c-crying." I couldn't stop hiccuping, and I could barely breathe. He was definitely concerned about me, but a little panicky too. He doesn't do too well dealing with other peoples emotions, let alone a crying girl who doesn't know what's wrong.

"Er- is there anything I can do to help?"

I just shrugged in response, knowing that there were no words that could come out of my mouth without my voice cracking big time.

His eyes lit up the way they always do when he gets an idea.

"Come with me."

He grabbed my hand and started running in the direction of the woods. I thought he was crazy, and was pretty close to questioning it, but what could it hurt to let him take me wherever we were going. We kept running until I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest, but we finally reached a little clearing. I had finally calmed down enough to get a full sentence out.

"Zeke, I love you, but what on God's green Earth is this clearing gonna do for me?"

He looked at me like that was a question no sane person would ever ask. "I don't know, thought you could clear your head or something, let it all out?"

That actually did not sound like a bad idea, so I let out the loudest scream I think I ever had, and al the emotions came bubbling to the surface. I started bawling, and I mean bawling, I started yelling, and screaming, and apparently entertaining Zeke with all my crap. I was just about to yell at him when something happened. Something came out of my hands and blew him onto his back. Zeke sat on the ground, baffled by what just happened.

He looked at me and whispered, "Holy sh-"

All of a sudden it happened again, but this time I screamed. Red bolts shot out of my hands, and went everywhere, one knocking over a small tree. It looked like lightning. I just shot lightning out of my hands. I'm red, how is that possible?
