and as she cried he held her. he wasn't going to move until the waves of tears stopped crashing against his shoulder and her sadness faded away, even if it was just momentary.

as she wept in despair he seemed sad. who wouldn't be? the girl he loved was falling apart right in his arms and it seemed that there was nothing for him to do.

the clock was moving ever so slowly, and he could hear the infinite ticking between her broken cries. he just waited in silence until he decided to break it.

"it's going to be okay. i love you," he promised her and squeezed her gently in his arms.

he heard her sniffle as the tears seemed to have stopped. she lifted her head and silently placed the softest of kisses on his lips before lying against him and closing her eyes, wanting to sleep.

wanting to disappear from reality for a while and feel his arms protecting her from the nightmares, to leave this sadness behind.
