He paced back and forth, mumbling to himself. Y/n, his wife, crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. "It's not a big deal Tommy."

"Not a big deal?" Thomas sputtered, "You act like it's a big deal-"

"To me! It's not about you!"

"What you deal with, I deal with as well! That's how a marriage works!" He grabbed a bottle from one of his shelves and walked back to his desk. Tommy poured himself some before glancing up at Y/n, wordlessly asking if she'd like some, to which she shook her head.

"Really? Because last I checked, you don't lie to your wife."

"Lie? W-"

"Yes. Lie. You tell me I'm beautiful- tell me that what others say is nowhere near the truth-"

"Because! You are beautiful! Nothing of what they say is 'the truth'!" He groaned, leaning back in his chair and resting an elbow on his desk, supporting his face as he watched her.

"And how am I supposed to believe you." Tommy opened his mouth to interrupt, but she continued, feelings flooding out before she could stop them. "You tell me, over and over, but then someone says something. Why is it that I hear it from someone else? Why is that a majority of Birmingham tells me that you're just using me? Why is that that same majority says you would never willingly marry someone like... someone... someone like- someone like me?"

"W-what? What do you mean, love?"

"Don't 'love' me. I'm talking about...the girls Birmingham imagines you to be with have tiny waists, tiny wrists, tiny...fucking- tiny everything! Sure, maybe some've got tits or an actual ass, but the rest of them? The rest of their bodies?" She wiped away the tears that threatened to escape, refusing to cry in front of her husband despite having done so many times before. "As my husband, you should be telling me the truth! Not your friends, not Lizzie Stark, no one but you should be telling me this shit! I'm tired of it!"

The room was quiet, aside from Y/n's sniffles. "Talk to me!" Thomas remained silent, much to Y/n's dislike. His face held a look of concentration. Y/n didn't understand why, but it agitated her just as much as his silence.

"Lizzie...Lizzie had a part in this?"

Her anger faded into confusion. "What?"

"Answer the question, Y/n. Did Lizzie have a part in this?"

"Well... yeah but-"

"Fuck," He looked down, "who else?"

Y/n scoffed, "Why would you want to k-"

"Y/n." Her gaze snapped to his face, eyes making contact harshly. The way he looked at her...she didn't know why, but she felt compelled to give in, to give him her whole life story had he just asked her too. "Who, else?"

"The people at the bar...a few blinders, but the rest...just normal folk who live in Birmingham too. Then there's Lizzie and... and the girls she spends her time with..."

"Shit...I'll deal with it, love-"

"How? How exactly are we going to fix this? I can't believe you nor can I recover from the shit that's been said about me. We can make them shut up, but I can't just forge-"

"They're brainless fools, Y/n. If they had even a single braincell, they could see just how gorgeous- how breathtaking you are." Tommy stood up from his desk, walking over to his wife and pulling her close to him, "You are a marvelous, strong, courageous, smart, loving woman. I have no regrets of marrying you, and I shall prove my love to you in any, and every, way possible, with you holding the reins, lest you ever think something so...so...so untrue, ever again."

He kissed her lovingly, smiling as he pulled away. "Remember, love. They're only brainless fools."
