A pretty dark blue Nightwing was walking fast down the stone halls of the Nightwing island.Almost running. It was hatching. What if I'm wrong. I can't be, she has to be hatching tonight. She almost tripped as she realized what she thought. She. Starwake new it was hatching tonight. She had the feeling in her stomach. As she passed dragons they gave her sad looks, she had told them the egg had cracked like her friend Secretkeeper had done with her egg. Secretkeeper had told her that her dragonet, Moonwatcher, seemed to be reading her mind and her egg was silver. Starwake thought that sounded weird, but there were many weird things had happened before. Why would it stop now.

She almost ran into Farsight and Mastermind. Mastermind starred at her intently while Farsight look at her with sympathy.

"Tonight your egg was supposed to hatch, wasn't it?" Farsight asked. Starwake just nodded her head.

"I talked to Secretkeeper the night her egg was about to hatch also. Poor dear, she snapped when I talked to her. But that is expectable." Farsight continued shaking her head. "Where are you going this late at night?"

"I needed some fresh air, so I am going to the rainforest or the desert." She replied nervously, hopping they wouldn't suspect anything. Thankfully Mastermind just nodded, but Farsight stopped her from walking away by stretching out her wing. Starwake froze, afraid of being caught.

"Just let me know if you want company and I'll happily join you." Farsight said politely.

"Thank you Farsight, but I am fine. I will let you know when I do." Starwake said dipping her head. As she flew down to the black beach where the tunnel was she felt the air rumble. It was hotter than usual. When she landed she was stopped by Darksear.

"Do you think it will erupt?" He asked nervously, glancing at the volcano every once in a while.

"No. At least not yet." She replied. He still looked unsure but he seemed to snap out of it.

"Where are you going tonight?" He asked.

"I needed some fresh air, so I figured I might hunt for a while. I might even catch a lizard in the desert." She said, hopping he would believe her lie just as Farsight and Mastermind did. He just nodded and stepped out of her way. She dipped her head in respect and walked through. As she went into the rainforest, she went through the tunnel to the kingdom of the sand. She looked up at the night sky. She saw three full moons, just like the night she laid it.

When she went through she walked behind it, where there was a hole big enough for a dragon her size. It was a very deep hole, just enough to fit an egg. As she peeked inside she didn't see it where it should be. What if a sandwing got it. If I don't  find that egg I'll kill whoever took it!

She whipped around trying to figure out where it went, she saw a silver egg out in the open. She gasped. It must be her egg. When she walked over to it she saw a crack in the egg. She carefully picked it up in her talons. She new what to do, since this wasn't her first egg. She had another about three years ago, which hatched a dark, dark green Nightwing whom she named Hunter.

As she watched the egg cracked even more. With a loins crack it fell apart leaving a beautiful  female dragon in her talons. She had a darkish purple snout and spikes, purple eyes, dark blue scales down her neck and belly, with a purple-grey belly, and black scales. Her wings had a glossy purple and blue look to them, like herself but she just had blue. She had a silver teardrop scale next to her eyes and two extra stars below her eye. She was perfect in every way.

She looked up into the night sky, looking at the moons. She then looked at her.

"Gurgwl?" The dragonet asked.

"Hello little one, I am your mother." Starwake whispered to her newly hatched dragon. "I'm going to name you Midnight." The dragonet gurgled in response.

As Starwake woke up she hadn't realized she had fallen asleep or how long she had staid out. She had to leave she realized. She looked at her now sleeping daughter and carefully put her back in the hole in which she had put the egg.

"Werrrrg?" Midnight asked waking up.

"I have to leave little one. I'll be back soon don't worry." She said. "Goodbye darling." She started to fly away, tears streaming down her face. Before she went through the tunnel she snatched three lizards. She hoped the tears falling down her face would make it so that Preyhunter wouldn't question her about being gone so long.
