Lorelei deafened her footfalls until they could no longer be heard. She swiftly made her way through foliage praying that she wouldn't be caught. Slipping inside the cottage would undoubtably be the hardest part. She neared it and threw herself against the side of it just out of the windows visual reach. This was life and death, as in if she was caught...She gulped and regained composure. She used the knife strapped to her leg to pick the lock on the window. Prying it open slowly it squealed softly making her cease all movement.
Lorelei checked for any sign of audible movement then scolded herself. There was no way she would be heard by her. Or anyone. This was nerve wracking. She resumed infiltration of the small, unassiming cottage. She opened it wider, just enough for her to slip inside, she hoped, unnoticed. She crept low on the ground proceeding to relock the window.
"Ehem." Oh man!
Lorelei turned to see her older sister Katerina. She grinned sheepishly at her sister who stood above her, her lips puckered in annoyance.
"Oh, uh, hey Kat." She stood trying to play it off as though she'd been here the whole time. It was pretty obvious she wasn't buying it though.
"Hello Lorelei Draco Aurelia Igdonese." Lorelei gulped. Her sister only used her full name when she was in trouble.
She dusted herself off casually.
"Kat, let me explain." Lorelei help up her hands while trying to think of an explanation.
The cottage, fashioned in a sort of homely style , was Kat's and her own home on the outskirts of the village. Kat was, as you'd expect, perfect. Not the kind of "I wish I was you" perfect, it was the "I know you and everyone else can never amount to this" perfection. And Lorelei, being Kat's sister was always being told the latter. Meanwhile, they also said "If you applied yourself..." Blah, blah, blah. Kat was tall, pretty green eyes, with long blonde lockes perpetually braided back tightly. She was lieutenant of the Heroes' Guard that protected and enforced the laws of their village, Ashvrynn.
Kat had graduated the academy three years ago at the top of her class. She wanted Loelei to do the same. To be pretty and delicate looking like Kat while delivering major wins for the Heroes. Only, everyone knew that was impossible for her.
"No." Kat said sharply, "I don't want your excuses. I know where you were. You were with Freidan."
Freidan Ashvrynn is Lorelei's best friend. He's also the Cheif's son and a total womanizer. But he's a good guy despite her sister not liking him. Of course she doesn't, she has a perfect boyfriend and perfect friends and a perfect life. That's what gave her the right to judge everyone else, Lorelei thought bitterly.
"And if I was?" Lorelei's voice was like a serated knife as she got ready to defend Frei again, like she did every night.
"You stay out every night until it's late with that boy! You come back all dirtied and sweaty, a mess! I stay up with cooked dinner going to waste because you want to do Vanir knows what wth him!"
"We. Are. Just. Friends. I am still chaste!" Lorelei hissed, her anger bubbling.
"Are you?" Kat looked at her hard, "If you aren't..."
"I am!" Lorelei roared.
It hurt and, at the same time, infuriated her that her sister had accused her of being one of Frei's many girlfriends. Yeah, sure, Frei was good-looking but that had zilch to do with the simple fact that she hadno interest in Frei.
"Lei, I'm asking because-."
"Because you want to judge me like you don't already do it enough!" She spat, "Can't I have a life?!"
