CHAPTER FIVE
( ICARUS COMPLEX! )

JESSICA TOOK OFF ON THE HIPPOGRIFF WITH A SQUEAL. Had you told her that she would be riding a half-eagle half-horse creature a year ago, she would have laughed in your face. Had you told her that Harry Potter would be sitting behind her, clutching at the beast's feathers for dear life as well, she probably would have hexed you for even fathoming something so outrageous. But here they were. And she couldn't care less.

Buckbeak soared through the underbrush of the trees. The sun peeking behind the clouds, shined happily onto their skin. The wind whispered sweet nothings and played with their hair as the Hippogriff made his way towards the Black Lake. Buckbeak neared the water, his talons skidding its surface. Jessica swore she could see the Giant Squid wave at them as they flew by. The castle stood regal and just, its aging limestones hugged by vibrant green ivy. You could almost feel the radiating magic that was held between its doors. The secrets that danced through its grand hallways, waiting to be found.

Hogwarts never looked more beautiful.

Jessica heard a shout of excitement come from the boy sitting behind her, and couldn't help but join in on the moment of pure joy. She let out a loud laugh, as they both embraced their freedom with open arms. It was music to Harry's ears.

It was at that moment, they could both just be normal fourteen year olds. He wasn't the boy who lived. And she didn't hold the weight of trauma on her shoulders. They were just kids.

Jessica was not a hateful person by any means. She did not hate Harry at all. Though his hero complex, that seemed to be a common trait amongst Gryffindors, did rub her the wrong way. Jessica was wary of morally righteous people, and it was proven that the house of lions held a lot of them. Their arrogance and ignorance melded together and their moral superiority clouded their judgment, especially towards Slytherins. And Harry Potter was the mascot and torchbearer for them all.

He was the boy wonder, the child that had defeated the Dark Lord, the Quidditch prodigy. He was a gifted wizard, but as far as she knew, he had the personality of a teaspoon. And was awful with girls.

The first time Jessica had met Harry, he had been rendered silent. Was it because he was in awe of her rather confident nature or was it because of the effects of living underneath a stairwell for most of his life? Even Harry himself didn't know. But it did leave a rather sour first impression on the young girl.

"The Forbidden Forest? I I don't know, Jessica. It's forbidden for a reason. Why would you possibly want to go there?" Neville quivered.

"You can't tell me you were never curious. Plus. . . I heard that you could find black flowers and Bubotubers if you go far enough." Jessica glanced at the boy beside her. She knew fully well that Neville had a growing passion for Herbology. "I've always wanted to learn how to make medicinal salves. And I'd rather not steal calendula and rosehips from Snape's cupboard."
