It's not the drug that kills its yourself.

"What's going on?" I asked, fury fuming in my voice. "How dare you speak to me in that tone?" My mother darted back at me shooting lasers out of her eyes in my direction. "The better question is why are you at my school? And why are you handcuffed? What's going on here??" I blurted as worry struck when I realised what was really happening. "You skipped school." My mom shot out with a rather mocking tone, as if she was trying to make some sort of point. "Yeah, so? It's not like you even cared enough to make me. You practically kicked me out of the house! And besides I thought you were abandoning me for the weekend. What changed? Did you suddenly realise your poor daughter can't survive on her own?" The second the words escaped my mouth I regretted it remembering we weren't the only people in the room. "Enough!" The tall intimidating man holding down my mother with dark curly hair and intense brown eyes who must've been a high end cop because I've never seen a uniform like that yelled. "Angela Payne, you're under arrest for child neglecting, domestic violence, driving under the influence, and possession of illegal drugs. You have the right to remain silent; anything you say can and will be against you in court and your rights will be told." The man announced loud so everyone could hear and with that they were gone followed by a few more of the strange men.

After a few more minutes of waiting in what we told must be silence, another woman walked in the room. I've seen her at the school before and she obviously worked in the office. She was a short older woman who's hair was completely grey and her frail body's was shrivelled up like a raisin; she was at least 70. "Do any of you know why you're hear right now?" She asked, as if we had a clue. "Well my mother just got arrested in here, if it has anything to do with that, and Aubrey's my best friend but I don't know why he's here" I snorted. "I'm here for the same reason as you." Grayson retaliated, sounding more genuinely tired than upset. "Same reason?? As me??? I'm here apparently cause my mother was just arrested and now I'm a fucking orphan and you're trying to say you're here for the same reason as me?!" I snapped back without hesitation as I jumped out of my seat "Enough! Sit down." Raisin lady shouted sounding a lot like the officer who was in here earlier. "Aubrey's here because her mother is taking you into semi-custody until you turn 18 in 2 months. For now she's half your legal guardian." "Semi? Half? Who's the other?" This conversation is getting really confusing really quickly. "That's where I come in. Her mother can only take you in on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Since I turned 18 four months ago, I offered to be your legal guardian until you're free and you can live with my family and I in our estate." Grayson said sounding more like a snob by the second. God, at least he's cute. "Oh heeell no. Under no circumstances will I live with that." Do they really think I'll live with this? "Actually, you will. They're the only family that'll take a 17 year old for 2 months and be able to take care of all your basic needs and I'm sure they'll provide you with much more. if you want to survive out of an orphanage, I suggest you give it a chance. You may dismiss yourselves." raisin lady spoke what she pleased and with that she was off.

"What now?" Aubrey asked, trying to take some of the tension out of the room. "Well I'm sure as hell not going to school for the rest of today!" I exclaimed and got agreements from Aubrey and Grayson. "I guess we can all go help pack your stuff and get you settled in your new home if you'd like." Grayson said still being so polite. "Homes. With an s" Aubrey corrected, feeling the same hate towards Grayson as I did. "Right.." "Well I'll drive Aubrey with me and I suppose you can follow." I stated, turning around Before he could agree. Aubrey caught his number and texted him to meet us on the main road and sure enough, not a minute later, a shiny black mustang pulled up next to my hummer. Even his car has to try and one up me. Within 10 minutes, we were pulling into my now unoccupied driveway.
