BIRTHDAY BOY

From the moment the pups met Everest they were all enthusiastic about having a new member joining their team. Everest took her liking to all of them.
They each stood out from leadership and bravery to clumsiness and being light hearted. They were more that friends. One Dalmatian caught her eye in a special way.
On September 25 he grew enough heart to ask her out with Ryders permission of course. Although he was nervous because of rocky's and Zuma's failed attempts at asking her out. They both came back with the same answer. "No"
He hoped his birthday would give him a little leverage over the situation because of the clear sign on why she was over. It was his special day. On that he hoped she would feel bad if she said no, so she would have to say yeah because its his his day.
It went a little something like this.
"Heyy buddy, happy birthday." Chase said as Marshall walked in confused on why just chase was there.
"Where is everyone?" Marshall asked expecting a surprise party but seeing nothing.
"Asleep, Ryder thought it was a good idea to sleep a little extra since it's your birthday. I can't say I'm a year older than now. For now at least." Chase said as he tried to joke and keep the heat off of Marshall's question.
"Oh." Marshall responded in a low tone voice.
"SURPRISE!!!"
Marshall jumped back while yelling like a little girl and landed on his head due to the sudden noise. It hurt his ears but it was heart warming for him. Mainly because he thought they had forgot.
Everyone started laughing because of his little shriek.
"Haha you got me." Marshall said sarcastically.
"You looked so sad for a bit." Chase said giving him a tight hug. "I felt really bad." He said making sure no one else heard.
"Yeah, then the scream and the jump were even better!" Rubble said wiping off tears of laughter.
"I didn't think you guess were doing anything special." Marshall admitted.
"Expect the unexpected." Rocky said feeling accomplished finally using that line.
"You guys did get me." Marshall complimented.
"Hey Marshall. Remember when you said you could beat me in a wrestling match." A voice said from behind him.
Marshall gulped thinking it was rubble or chase trying to squeeze the life out of him but luckily it was only Everest.
"Oh, I mean yeah. You are barley the same size as me... no offense." Marshall nervously chuckled not wanting to get on her bad side. Specifically because he had a crush on her and didn't want her to hate him.
"Maybe we should go play the games outside first. Before you guys wrestle each other. Plus tracker is gonna come over and I don't want you guys having patches of grass on you." Ryder said leading them outside with rocky and chase close behind.
"Your Safe... for now." Everest said as she walked by catching up to Skye.
"How does it feel being 4 years old?" Rubble asked
"Yeah, your the same age and Everest and chase now." Zuma said
"I didn't even think of that. Well you guys have to listen to me since I'm older." Marshall joked.
"Cmon let's play tug of war." Rocky said liking that there's no water based games.
Marshall looked outside and saw tons of people he's saved in their backyard holding a giant poster saying "happy birthday Marshall!"
"Wow, thanks you guys." Marshall said feeling shock go through his body.
"Gotcha twice!" Chase said walking besides his best friend.
"I'm confused. It's only 8 in the morning. Yesterday wasn't even close to looking like this." Marshall said completely puzzled.
"Oh boy we woke early." Rubble said
Marshall didn't get a chance to say anything because of the mass amount of people he had to greet. The mayor, Porter, captain turbot, Alex, tracker and the twins, and many others.
There was nice triple layered vanilla and strawberry cake on the center of the table. Some of the pups were skeptical about it because of the strawberry or the vanilla. They had their personal preferences but they didn't say anything. Rubble ate whatever.
Soon music started playing from a DJ who had been hidden from Marshall's view and that's when the party really started. Though they had a decent sized backyard they had a lot of people which made the party better in Marshall's opinion.
One of the things he enjoys the most is watching other people having the time of their life. It puts a smile on his face when he sees that and it's happening right now.
"Thank you Ryder." Marshall said
"Don't thank me. Everyone here helped especially rocky leading most of the pups. Some arguments broke out for leadership. Chase..." Ryder said looking at chase as he responded with a sheepish smile.
"Besides that it was pretty good." Ryder smiled looking at the party area with pride.
"The food is on its way." Ryder said before walking away to go find most likely Katie or the mayor.
Marshall knew what he wanted but it wasn't gonna be easy. He knew there would plenty of interruptions so he just needed some help from the nearest pup. Luckily he saw chase fumbling his words with Ella and tuck. Not long after Zuma joined in and it now looked like they were competing in a game.
"Hey guys..." Marshall started as he walked up to them. "So can we stop this hideous love fest and help me." Marshall asked
Chase and Zuma turned to Marshall. "Yeah, these guys suck at girl talk." Tuck laughed.
"Haha, so what do you need help with?" Chase asked curiously.
"Okay, so... I like Everest..." Marshall said sheepishly. Except there was only dead silence and they all looked at him with a confused face.
"We know. I thought you could do it on your own." Zuma said with no excitement at all.
"Just talk to her or something. She doesn't know because you basically ignore her everything she comes over. Hopefully she thinks your playing hard to get." Chase explained
"Dude, listen to me. Just have fun and party. Why are you gonna ask her out in front of everyone you know..?" Tuck asked thinking that was the dumbest idea.
"Okay then, where is she at?"
"Probably with Skye. Maybe Silvia but I don't think she likes her too much." Chase said with a sigh. "Good luck!" He added
Marshall turned around started to walk through the crowd which turned out to be a horrible idea. He got asked to play games way to many times. He didn't wanna be rude so he unwillingly said agreed to every request.
"Finally..." Marshall thought time himself. Luckily for him Everest and Skye found him.
"Boy you suck at those games. You let Alex beat you in tug of war." Everest joked.
"I let him win. I could've dragged him." Marshall said knowing he can. He was surprised at the kid's sudden strength.
"So... what do you wanna do. Not like there's nothing to d-do." Everest said with a nervous chuckle.
Skye slipped away realizing what was happening and got away unnoticed to go tell the other pups.
"They are gonna do musical chairs right now!" Marshall said getting excited for actually games like musical chair, pin the tail on the donkey, hoop toss, and others.
"Sure, it's gonna be a big game." Everest said hearing Ryder talk into a microphone.
"Okay guys and gals and pups. We will be starting our first game musical chairs. If you want to join just take a random chair and place it in the grass patch over there. Winner gets a surprise!." Ryder said handing the microphone back and discussing some things with the DJ.
They grabbed their chairs and lined up next to chase and Sylvia on their right and Skye, rubble, and zuma on their left.
"Okay, our DJ will randomly stop the music. When it starts you move!" Ryder said sitting down and watching everyone start to move.
Marshall felt tense. He didn't think he would be out... yet.
Out of nowhere the current song they were listening to "Stolen Dance" stopped dead in its tracks and after all the gasps chase was the first to go.
The music content and the game continued. The rest of it was uneventful with Marshall unsurprisingly falling and over and going out. Everest noticed it was her, Skye, tuck, Ella, Alex and Sylvia left. All the boys had pushed each other off causing them to loose.
When the music stopped she pulled the chair out from under tuck and he fell over.
Everyone started laughing but tuck hadn't given up and pulled the chair back causing Everest to fall and gave him the chance to sit on it.
The next couple of games weren't to fun for them. Marshall ended up winning pin the tail on the donkey by a hair with rocky being a close second.
Soon was the team game. They tied 4 of their paws together and needed to run to a cone and back.
Almost everyone had their partner and they lined up.
Marshall was feeling overwhelmingly confident with this one.
The words "go" rung through the air and their first step was their last. Marshall forgot to step with his left foot and started with his right.
They instantly fell down and hit their heads on each other. They were rewarded with a cold ice pack and a good laugh.
"That's gonna leave a mark." Marshall said.
"Yeah it is... I said left and you used your right foot." Everest said for the 5th time.
"I know... I think the party is gonna end soon. People are already leaving." Marshall pointed out.
"Nahhh really? I didn't see them walking out. At least Sylvia left." Everest said with a sigh of relief.
Marshall was tempted to ask why she was happy about that but he put it down and continued to talk.
"So, I enjoyed that." Marshall smiled
"Me too." Everest said looking down and leaning into him.
Marshall didn't think much of it. The lean was a big deal though. That's the closest he has gotten with her.

After everyone had left the lookout the pups got back together and let out a sigh of relief and yawns of tiredness.
"You guys can head to bed. We'll clean up tomorrow." Ryder yawned walking towards the lookout.
The pups followed suit.
"Everest, follow me." Marshall said trying not to let the others know.
Rocky turned around about to blurt something out before Skye grabbed his ear and dragged him inside.
Everest followed and they looked at the rising moon and the sunset. The sky looked like a battle between the orange and light blue against the dark blue.
"This is beautiful." Everest said comparing it to the view she gets on the mountain. She wouldn't agree it's better but it's different.
Marshall had found his chance. Just like in the movies and games he had the opportunity. It was as easy as finding a black sheep in a heard of white sheep.
"Not as b-b-beau- b- beauti—-" Marshall started like a stuttering mess. He had it in his grasp and he dropped it. But Everest got the memo and French kissed him on the cheek anyways.
They both blushed and leaned into each other for the rest of the night.
Until mosquitoes showed up. Then they went inside.
