Three Years Later
Venessa strutted through the doors of the hospital excited to see her best friend once again.
"Hi, I'm here to see Athena Stone," Venessa gave a small smile, tapping her finger on the counter where the receptionist worked.
"Ah yes, she's right over there," the young lady smiled, while pointing to the brunette-haired woman sitting alone, dozing off into space.
"Thank you," Venessa smiled once more, and paced towards the woman.
"Athena?" Venessa asked the woman, a small smile turning into a huge grin when the woman turned around to see the beautiful pair of apple green eyes.
"Venessa?!" Athena's eyes widened, as she stood up an inch right under the tall woman.
"Surprise!" Venessa exclaimed, while she gave Athena jazz hands.
"OH MY GOD!" Athena screamed, making people turn their heads as she jumped onto Venessa in a bone-crushing hug.
"Don't worry I'm real," Venessa winked, as she gave a small laugh. The girls took their seats as Venessa looked around the hospital to see patients dozed off or distracted by random objects. She turned the other way to see an old woman talking to someone that wasn't there. She could help but think of Ath-
"So! How's it been?" Athena asked, as she rubbed her hands together never letting go of the smile on her lips.
"Uh, good yeah. Boring as usual, how about you?" Venessa retorted, still smiling as she studied Athena's face for any sign of Schizophrenia. But alas, she still looked as she normally did, the same girl. A normal girl without any problems.
"Good, I mean I have to go through 3 days of therapy every week which is pretty boring if you ask me," both women laughed, and Athena continued to ask a question she seemed to have asked a lot, "hey V? I don't really remember what really happened. I mean you didn't really give a full answer."
"Well," she cleared her throat and continued, "you did move from Texas, that part is true and uh, well you told me about this crazy ex of yours. Dean I mean, and I believed you I mean of course I would. But, we didn't meet in college Athena, we met at work. John wasn't alive when you say you met him."
"Wha- what do you mean?" Athena asked, shakily.
"Athena, he died from cancer before you ever 'met' him. And also, I'm not your roommate A, I'm uh, I'm your fiancé. We've been together for 4 years now," Venessa explained, tears falling freely down her face. Athena didn't say anything and nodded, tears falling down her face as well. Venessa continued, as her voice cracked with ever word,
"Ya know that ex you were talking about...well police checked, there is no Dean Anderson that lives in Amarillo, Texas. I thought he was real.. but he's uh, he's not."
"Oh my god. I didn't think it was that bad I'm so sorry, I'm trying, I'm taking the medication, I'm-" Athena stuttered, before she was cut off.
"I know, I know," Venessa smiles through her tears before she continued, "no matter how long it takes, no matter if it's 2 months or 10 years, I'll wait for you, I'll always wait for you."
