Silence. That's usually how it is when you're asleep. Little does our sleeping weapons expert know that the peaceful silence of her quiet apartment room is soon going to be broken by the annoying beeping of the alarm right next to her.
The alarm goes off and Bismuth's eyes shoot open. She tiredly sits up, yawns, and pushes the off button on the alarm. She stretches and gets up. She drowsily heads to her closet and starts to change. She has a class to teach today. The large teacher changes into her usual t-shirt, overalls, and muddy boots. Bismuth grabs her phone, keys, and heads for the door out to her car.
Bismuth always had the same radio show on. Today they were talking about how a woman on their show had won 3'000 dollars.
"Pshh. That's just a load of bullshit. Why would they just give a random woman 3'000 dollars when they could give it to somebody who needs it?" Bismuth thought to herself
She kept driving until she reached the coffee shop. It's was called the Rise n' Shine Cafe'. It was Bismuth's favorite coffee shop. Plus her good friends Peridot and Lapis worked there.
She parked in her usual parking spot and walked through the doors ringing a small bell.
"Good morning guys!" Said Bismuth with a enthusiastic grin.
"Good morning Bismuth." Peridot and Lapis said in unison.
"I'm guessing you're getting the usual?" Said Lapis who was refilling the coffee pot.
"You know it!" Bismuth said happily walking to her usual spot.
Bismuth stopped in her tracks. There was a woman sitting there quickly tapping away at a lap top and sipping at her coffee. At first Bismuth was a little frustrated that her spot was taken but then noticed that she had never seen her there before. Bismuth walked over to another table and got a good look at her. The woman had pasty skin and light peach hair with light blue eyes. She wore a blue jacket and a button up shirt with skinny jeans and light blue flats. Bismuth thought she was beautiful.
Peridot walked up to Bismuth holding her order.
"Here's your cinnamon bagel with black coffee." Said Peridot laying down the plate and cup.
"Oh.. um thanks. Um by any chance do you know who that woman is?" Bismuth said with her cheeks turning into a light shade of pink.
Peridot turned around.
"Oh yeah! That's Pearl. She lives with my girlfriend Amethyst." Said Peridot.
"Oh! I've never seen her here before." Bismuth replied.
"Yeah. She's a writer. She usually stays at home with Steven while Amethyst and Garnet work."
"Who's Steven and Garnet?" Questioned Bismuth.
"Garnet is their other roommate she works as a couples therapist on the other side of town. Steven is I think her nephew or something. I've never asked. He's a sweet kid though." Peridot replied.
Just as Bismuth was about to say something the bell indicating someone walking in rang.
"Oh! I gotta go deal with this. Give me a sec." Peridot quickly said as she ran into the kitchen of the cafè.
Bismuth didn't care. Peridot was working and she didn't want to interrupt. Bismuth quickly ate her bagel and drank her coffee. All while keeping her focus on the beautiful stranger.
Once Bismuth was finished she payed her bill, left Lapis and Peridot a tip and left.
Bismuth reached the university, put on her goggles, and got ready to teach her students.
This same routine repeated for about a month.
The next morning Bismuth repeated her usual routine. She drove to the cafè and parked in her usual spot. When Bismuth walked in she noticed a shorter woman talking to Peridot at the counter.
"Good Morning guys!" Bismuth said without really acknowledging the woman.
"Hey Bismuth. The usual?" Lapis said wiping her hands after washing some dishes.
"Yep!" Bismuth said with a smile.
"Hey Bismuth." Peridot said pulling her attention away from the shorter woman.
"Hey Peridot! Who is this?"
"Oh! This is my girlfriend Amethyst. She wanted to drop by and say hi." Peridot replied.
"Sup'" Amethyst said looking up at Bismuth.
"Hi. I'm Bismuth." Bismuth said reaching her hand out to shake.
"You can call me Amy." Amethyst said shaking her hand.
