A/N- hey there!! so this a preview of the next fanfic im gonna write comment/vote if u want me to write it!!! And btw one direction comes in later on

I stared at the brown duct-taped boxes in my new room with my back laid against the oak floor. The ceiling was a plain white and walls were puke green. The house was on top of a hill so from the only, big window in my room you could see the edge of the ocean. The sun was just rising through the clouds making the sky a pretty purple shade.

We were in Brisbane, Australia. I loved Australia so far. It was a breathtakingly beautiful place. The fields were an energetic green and the sky was always blue and never gray and depressing like in Chicago. Our new house was only a five minute drive to the ocean. My dad and I moved here yesterday. My dad studies fossils so we end up traveling all around the world. As far as I remember, we have been on the move. I’m not a people person and have never had any friends. I had to start in a new school again, we had moved in the middle of my junior year in high school, but here it was summer vacation.

I stood up just as my dad paused at the doorway startling me. He cleared his throat then, came over smiling at me. He said, “Rebecca, honey, I know moving is hard for you and I hope you know that I’m sorry.”

I stared at him and nodded blankly. He always said a line or two about moving each time we did and I always nodded. I didn’t know what else to do. If I protested I would feel bad because this is his job and he did say sorry. A few seconds of awkward silence went by and I turned my head towards him and nodded again.

“Happy Birthday!” He said finally. He said it in his normal conversation tone, “I got you a present…” Right, today was my birthday. I had completely forgotten, I had stopped caring after all that moving. Nothing seemed important in life anymore.

But my dad had been great at getting presents. I barely, even mentioned what I wanted as a present but he always seemed to know. But after the incident, he hadn’t been the same…

“If you close your eyes I’ll give it to you” my dad continued. The suspense built up in my chest and I found myself closing my eyes and cupping my hands in front of me. In my hand I felt something cold. It was metal with rough ridges. I opened my eyes and seriously, I was surprised. In my hands, there was a key.

The key was rigid and made of brass; it wasn’t for a car because it wasn’t like any car key. To tell the truth I had no idea what it was for. I gave my dad a What The Fuck? look. A smile spread through his face and he motioned me to follow. I followed him down the wooden steps and through our new living room which like all the rest of the rooms was filled with brown duct-taped boxes. I sighed. New House. New School. New People. New Place. And then when I start to get used to it, we moved again. I was done with this life. One more year and I can finally move somewhere and stay there for more than a year.

“Do you wanna see what the key is for?” My dad was leaning against the white door that led outside his arms crossed across his chest. I sighed again following him outside. He led me through the weeds which were supposed to be our front lawn and into his red convertible jeep.

“Where are we going?” I asked him finally as we were pulling out of the dirt driveway. I saw the full house in daylight for the first time. It was a white modern house with two floors. It was brand new and surrounded with green, wild fields. I recognized my window from the hot pink curtains, I had hung up.

“You’ll see,” he answered. Our house was one of the only ones on the street. There was one other mysterious looking red house and two new houses being built.
