      "GENE !" I hear as I walk. It was my best friend, Kang Eun-Min (she usually goes by Minnie.) She was my only friend. I waved her over as we continued to walk. "Hey Minnie."

               Eun-Min rolled her eyes playfully. "Don't hey Minnie me. We were supposed to meet up two hours ago." I gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry. Things were hectic at home." Eun-Min sighed. She was the only one I openly talked to about my parents situation.

               I filled her in, of course. I had too. Mom & Dad have been arguing so much lately. Vampires were adored & accepted here in Seoul. Mom seemed to debate moving back to Daegu.

        Eun-Min loved to shop. I accompanied her since it was boring entertaining yourself. I was looking at a handbag when Eun-Min nudged me. "Uh, isn't that your dad ? Who's the woman he's with ?"

        I followed her gaze across the store. It indeed was my father & a woman. The woman was lean & tall. She had red eyes & fangs. She was looking at the vampire collection. Who was she ?

        Eun-Min sensed my distress. "Want to leave ?" I brushed her off moving forward. I was going to eavesdrop. "What do you think, Honey ?" The woman said studying a handbag with a bat clasp in the middle. My father gave a bright smile, wrapping an arm around her waist. "My little Engene will love it."

          They were collectively getting me a gift ? Why ? The woman gave a nod. "When will you tell them ? You can't stay married to the wretched woman any longer. All she does is make you upset." Wretched woman ? Was she talking about my mother ? My father sighed, "Hye-Ae, calm down. I'll talk with Engene & Jisoo today."

             I couldn't listen anymore. I said my goodbyes to Eun-Min before heading home. A measly three hours passed before Dad finally came home. "Jisoo, I want a divorce. We just aren't as in love as we used to be." Mom looked devastated. "How long have you been meaning to ask me this ? What about Engene, Chan ?"

          I stayed quiet. What was I even going to say ? It didn't look like I could convince my father otherwise. "I want joint custody over Engene." My mother sighed. She looked tired & sick of arguing. "What if I don't want this ?" My father rolled his eyes. "I fell in love with someone else, Jisoo. Please don't try to trap me in this marriage."

           "Who's the woman, hmm ?" It was uncomfortable to watch. "Her name is Hye-Ae." My mother looked down right terrified. "A vampire ? You want one of those creatures around our daughter ?" My father rolled his eyes, "This is precisely why I want a divorce. We can never agree & you're way too paranoid."

         Before I knew it a couple months had passed. Dad quickly eloped with Hye-Ae & we moved into the Vampiric Corner. Which meant I was switching schools. Hye-Ae seemed to want to please my father by being maternal with me. 

              Hye-Ae had bought me that bag I saw her & my father looking at. I admit it was beautiful. Almost everything I was gifted was from the vampire collection in that store. I felt so out of place. The school looked abandoned & dark. 

          Currently Hye-Ae was taking us to meet the vampire Council, or VC for short.
