Tokoyami x Tsuyu

A cute headcanon that Tokoyami and Tsu met when they were kids

Tokoyami looked around with Dark Shadow at his side, trying to find his parents. "Mommy? Daddy?" he called, the child running around in the rain. He was starting to get a bit scared, he'd not been without them before, he just really wanted to find his parents. "Don't worry, Fumi," said Dark Shadow in an unusually calm voice, "We'll find them soon."

Meanwhile, Tsu was sitting by a small puddle that had formed, her tongue slightly poking out of her mouth as she laid her umbrella on the floor next to her. Her small lips curled into a smile as she felt the rain on her skin, getting up and stretching before happily hopping around. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a small...bird? Boy? She wasn't sure, but he didn't look very happy. She shot him a quizzical look before hopping over to him, picking up her umbrella.

"Are you lost?" she croaked, catching the other by surprise. He said nothing but nodded in response. "Where's your mommy?"
"I-I don't know..."
Tsu offered him a small smile. "How about you stay with me until they come back?" she offered. The boy's eyes lit up for a second before he averted his gaze. "Alright!" squeaked Dark Shadow, causing Tsu to jump a bit. She giggled as she looked at him, reaching out to touch him. "D-don't do that! He'll hurt you!" said Tokoyami defensively, backing up. But Tsu already had her hand on Dark Shadow's head, softly rubbing it. He could hear the shadow's soft squawks of approval as he allowed the girl to touch him. He didn't even let their parents do this. He smiled a bit. "Guess he likes you..."

Tsu smiled before turning back to Tokoyami. "So, what's your name?" she asked, opening the umbrella and holding it over him. "Um, Tokoyami," he said quietly. Tsu smiled. "That's a nice name! My name's Asui, but you can call me Tsu," she said happily, turning to Dark Shadow, "and him?"
"He hasn't told me, but I call him Dark Shadow."
"That's so cool! And he just stays with you?"
"Mhm, all the time."
"He's like a forever friend!" said Tsu, beaming at him. Tokoyami looked at her, confused. "Forever friend? What's that?" he asked.
"You don't know what a forever friend is?
He shook his head.

"It's just what it says, a friend that stays with you forever. You'll never be alone!"
Tokoyami smiled. He'd never thought of Dark Shadow like that, his parents always called him a demon. But, this girl, she might be right. Maybe he was more like a friend. His eyes fell to her sopping-wet hair, to which he pushed the umbrella towards her. "H-here, you're all wet!" he said. Tsu giggled a bit. "It's fine, I like water. The rain has always been my favourite weather," she said, the tip of her tongue poking from her mouth. She looked around, spotting her front door. "How about we go inside? I can handle the rain, but you might get sick!" she said, motioning to her house. Tokoyami thought about it for a second. "R-really?" he asked. She nodded, smiling.

"Thank you."
"It's what friends do."

-Skip to the first day at UA-

Tokoyami looked around the packed classroom, a nervous pit starting to form in his stomach. "I don't like this, Dark Shadow..." he muttered quietly to the bird-like shadow resting on his shoulder. "It'll be fine, Fumi, it's just school!" he tried to reassure. Tokoyami nodded, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He kept his eyes close for a second before he felt Dark Shadow start to move. "What are you-" he started before seeing where he went.

Dark Shadow was at the front of the classroom, right by the door, wrapping around the girl that had just walked in. "Hey! I remember you!" she said, giggling as she rubbed his head. "Froggy!" he squawked happily. Tokoyami rubbed his eyes, thinking that he was hallucinating. He got up, walking over to her. "...Tsu, right?" he asked, hoping he'd got her name right. Tsu smiled as she turned to him, gasping. "Tokoyami-chan!" she said happily, "it's been so long!"

"Yeah, far too long..."
