With tremors still racking her body Abby slowly opened her teary brown eyes after noticing the brighten haze behind her closed lids. Outside, the sky had finally faded into a light purple misty scene as the birds began to sing their morning songs.

Taking that as her cue Abby began to hurriedly jam her feet into her old black converse. When the laces were tied she took fast past steps toward the only window in the room quickly releasing the locks.  She swung one copper-brown  leg after another over the window seal, mentally preparing herself for the jump. Looking down at the distance between herself and the the ground below Abby took one traditional cautious second, and thought. She thought about fighting back. She thought about climbing back in that room and waiting for her mother to come and then facing her.  She thought about what she might say, what she might demand, but mostly she thought about what she’d be willing to beg for.

Could I beg for freedom? Could I beg for love?

She thought and even partly considered climbing back over the window seal. She could do it. She could get on her knees and poor her heart out on the floor. She could cry and wail with every ounce of passion she kept hidden inside and maybe her predator would appeal to her better nature.  She could choose to beg, she could believe that all those Disney movies she use to watch weren’t just fable. She could believe that anything is possible all she had to do was try. She could have, but she didnt. Instead she took a long steady breath that made her heart beat harder and her chest shudder with its intensity and fell. She couldn’t run nor could she stay all she could do, all that was left for her to do was fall. Fall until she could fly.
