PROLOGUE - ROSE'S POV

"Yes, Aunt Jess, I'm fine - really", I assure my aunt on the other end of the line.
"Have you and Jonah packed up already?", she asks.

I bite my lip and look around. The whole room is empty now... my room. Just like all the other rooms in this house are now. "Jonah?", I yell.

It takes him a while to answer. He's been weird lately. "Yup", he yells back and I hear him running downstairs. A few seconds later he stands in the door. "What's up?", he asks, raising his left eyebrow.

"Have you packed your stuff yet?", I ask, looking into his eyes. There's no expression in them, they're just empty where there used to be so much life.

"Sure thing I have", he replies calmly, his hands in his pockets now. "Anything else? When's Jess picking us up?"

"Jess?", I say into my phone. "When are you picking us up?"

"I left like two and a half hours ago." I can hear her smile in her voice. She's so excited to pick us up. Probably also because that means we won't have to live on our own anymore and she can take care of us. And because she wanted us back in Brunswick the whole time, and even begged Mom and Dad to move back there with us.

"So you'll be here in two", I figure. "She'll be here in two hours", I say to Jonah.

"Awesome. See ya then, sis", he says quickly, shoots a fake smile at me and disappears upstairs again. I sigh.

"What is it, sweetie?"

"Jonah's just acting weird, since Mom and Dad... you know. Not like sad weird, but more like weird weird."

"I see", she breathes. "Well, it'll all be fine, I promise."

Suddenly, I hear someone giggle in the background. "Jess? Who's in the car with you?"

"No one, why are you asking?" Oh. Okay.

"I just thought I heard someone giggle but my mind's playin' tricks on me then, I guess", I say.

She laughs softly. "Yup, I guess. Anyways, sweetie, I'll be there in two and talk to you then. Love you."

"Love you, too, Aunt Jess."

She hangs up. I take a deep breath and sink onto a chair, the only one that is left in this house, closing my eyes. Two hours in an empty house. You can do this, Rosalie, I tell myself, but deep inside, I don't believe it.

Two hours later.

Jess' POV

My heart goes pretty fast when I pull up in their driveway - the driveway that is still my brother's, even though he isn't here on this earth with us anymore. I feel my heart ache at the thought of not ever seeing him again. It's been two months. It was a tragic accident. I still remember Rose calling me, completely devastated. They got into a gang shooting in one of Atlanta's suburbs. It doesn't really happen that often, but it does once in a while and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
