Chapter one

the bow was tugged tight to my chest, i was scrunched in a small corner waiting for a corruption. i was on the roof of an abandoned building where these things brought their victims or so we had been told. to pass the hours i looked to the sky only to find disappointment. the stars were not showing, but then again in this day, it didn't surprise me much.

'See anything.' a small squeaky voice boomed in my head. i cursed, remembering i was looking at the wide open sky and not looking for my objective, like i was supposed to. but tonight was boring and i knew the vermin wouldn't show.

'Nothing yet.' i projected back at keelan was on the top of the other building across from me. she, like me was perched behind the exhaust chimney, just close enough to hit and kill the target

'Wheres Zie and Ty?' i could tell keelan was impatient as was i.

'No idea, probably goofing around as usual.' i replied snidely. it was at that moment, a bow pricked me int he back, only just breaking the skin. i whipped around, bow steady and ready. only to find ty standing with his bow elegantly. perfect structure with a wide grin across his face.

'Quick but not quick enough.' his voice sounded in my head. i smiled and pushed his bow away. as fast as possible i ran past him and jumped onto the other roof top and did it a few more times, before i eventually slide down the side of a vacant building.i landed on my feet softly and broke into a run.

For the human eye was a blur but to those who, were immortal, i was slow and lacking speed. the wind weaved its way through my long black hair that fell to my bosom.

"Hey Lesa." i turned to see keelan trailing behind me. "well wasn't that boring as always." keelan joined me at my side ,and now we looked like humans no different than the others.

"Yeah i know, Zie try and scare you?" i asked keelan, she blushed under the moonlight. for as long as i had known keelan she Had fallen in and out of love with many boys, and many of those boys from afar.

"You could say that. did ty scare you?" i laughed. knowing what she meant. ty for the longest time had a crush on me, but i never saw him that way. just as a friend and not even that half the time.

"No he breaths as if hes dying from a heart attack and stomps on the ground like an elephant."

"Jeez you don't need to be so crude about it, he really likes you Lesa. like every other guy does."

"Liked." i grunted ignoring the second statement.

"oh whatever." Keelan scuffed fixing her bow on her shoulder. she looked at me and frowned.

"I'm so jealous, that you can glamour, you're the only one that can do it in the entire academy." Glamour is what you called a special gift where you can change the appearance of your self or others, as well you can make things appear to not be there, or things appear to be there when nothing but a false image.its a very manipulative power. but there's also a consequence to over using or abusing it. but i don't know what it is, no one has told me.

"I would give anything to lose it."

"what'd you say." Keelan asked obviously paying little attention to me.

"Never mind." i announced pushing the hair over my shoulder.

"What time do you suppose hira would do room check?" i looked at my watch. it was 10:00 pm.

"oh about now, but were on assignment tonight so we don't need to be in till like midnight." Keelan shook her head in utter agreement.

"Well since we have two hours to kill how about we go to LiLi." LiLi was a night club, where people who weren't affected by alcohol drank it anyways and acted drunk and grinned on each other. to me it was appauling, our elders would frown upon it, but then again, it isn't the 1600's anymore. its the modern day were nobody listens, and i mean nobody.
