"I can explain." Jay says, his tone sheepish.
Mark and Siwoo settled down on the couch, rubbing their foreheads at the chaos which unfolded in the living room, while Joohee rushes to switch on the table-side lamps, rubbing the sleep in her eyes. Sungho sighed, tired from his flight and certainly not expecting to find 5 girls cuddling with his best friends.
As they settled on the couch, sitting upright, an awkward silence loomed about in the room, as Sungho wove an unimpressed expression on his face.
"What kind of incredulous orgy was going on here?"
"NO!" "AHH WHAT BULL ARE SAYING!" "ITS NOT LIKE THAT WE SWEAR!" The boys hurried to explain, a horrified expression gracing their handsome faces. The girls lowered their heads in embarrassment, eyes widening the size of saucers.
"What is an orgy?" Yoonsie asked in a hushed whisper, eyes big and innocent. Jihyo and Joohee looked at each other, uneasy. "Now is not the time, Hon." Jinae said in a sweet whisper. Yoonsie nodded, storing the question for some other time.
"You see, they are our neighbours the girls, I meanand they recently moved in. We reckoned you might come a little late today, but we got lost in the movie and then slept. We were gonna introduce you, we swear." Jay rambled.
"Um, well. Since your roommate showed up so tentatively, we can leave for home, I guess" Hye-ri said, biting her lip with uncertainty. The other girls nodded, not wanting Sungho, who had just arrived from The States, to be uncomfortable in his own house. "Since your friend just arriv-"
"THAT WONT BE NECESSARY!" Sungho said, cutting Hye-ri off, in one breath. His gaze fixated on her. When he realised his sudden display of eagerness gained confused looks from everyone in the room, he stuttered to explain, "Ah I mean I dont mind , you know. Im not un-comfortable." He said, his voice calm. "Since the girls seem settled , we can move to our room..."He said, his voice low, his gaze never leaving Hye-ris eyes. She blushed and looked down, intimidated by Sungho, and how unwavering his gaze was.
The others knowingly wiggled their eyebrows, giggling at how obvious they were being. Ahem! Siwoo cleared his throat, breaking the tension. "So now that its settled, the girls will occupy the living room, all five couches, and we will head over to our rooms."
The others could only nod, sleep overcoming their features.
...The incandescent moonlight streamed in through the livid curtains of the living room. Joohee, unable to sleep, lied awake, staring the beige ceiling. She tossed and turned in bed, sighing in discontent. Disgruntled, she shot up from her bed dramatically, rubbing her eyes. What was this sudden insomnia?
She recalled Jay mumbling something about having an incorrigible stash of calming chamomile tea in one of the kitchen cabinets. Slowly, she walked past the sleeping girls (she wasnt even sure they were sleeping), feet padding softly on the floor. She arrived at the kitchen, relieved that she made it without waking anyone up. She smiled to herself, then turned around. And when she did that, her heart crept in her throat, she whisper- screamed, "OMO! You scared me!" to the black silhouette in front of her.
Byun stood there, sipping something from a cup, shocked to see Joohee there. "Ah...Joohee?What are you doing here so late?" he said, in a curious tone. "I couldnt sleep she said," rubbing the back of her head. "Oh..."Byun murmured, feeling heat creeping up on his cheeks. Joohee too, was glad that the kitchen was dark, lest he would see how dark she was blushing right now.
"Would youlike to have some tea?" he asked, his voice sweeter. Joohee gave him a big smile, nodding. The atmosphere suddenly became calm, tranquil, as the only sounds which resonated in the air was the gentle simmering of the water in the stove, the clement rustle of the breeze which flowed in through the kitchen window in front of the stove.
