Finding A Job

After losing my job at Pizza Hut, I needed to make some quick cash. I started looking online and in the papers to find a quick gig.

I saw on Craigslist that someone was looking for a Nanny/Babysitter. I was great with kids so I thought this would be perfect! I applied for the job and got a response for an interview within the hour! I was extremely excited!

The woman wanted to meet later that day and I told her let's meet at a coffee shop downtown. She agreed to meet me at 4:30pm. I arrived at 4pm so I could shake my nerves because interviews always made me nervous.

At 4:30 I heard the bell ringing signalling someone came into the shop. I looked up to see a older woman looking around and once she looked my direction, I hesitantly waved hoping she was the woman I was to meet. She smiled, walked over and sat down. I introduced myself and she did the same. She's odd I thought to myself.

She began asking me questions then told me I would be great for the position. I was beyond happy! I was scheduled to come to her place the next day to meet "the child" I was to be caring for.

When I arrived something just felt off. I couldn't shake the feeling. I chopped it up as nerves and proceeded to knock on her door. She opened it with a smile and let me in. She led me to the living area where there was a baby and a man I assumed was her husband. She introduced me and I bent down to play with the baby a little.

She started laying out my duties and I noticed they all involved the man not the child. I found out that I was to take care of him not the baby. Get his drinks, make his food, feed him even though he was capable of feeding himself. Taking him to the bathroom and bathing him. I was at a loss for words.

She said that since they had the baby she wouldn't be able to do these things for him as she had once done before. I asked if he was disabled or something but she said no. I was again at a loss for words trying to figure out why he needed to be cared for that way if he was perfectly capable of doing these things himself.

Uncomfortable, I told her I was not the right person for the job. She frowned,  but then offered me an obscene amount of money and being that I was in terrible need I asked her to give me a day to consider it. I never went back. She messaged me everyday for a week straight before finally giving up. Something about her was odd when I met her, but I didn't anticipate just how odd she was. Moral of the story: Don't accept jobs from Craigslist.
