The cold winter air quickly blew over the street Madel and clung Khalil's clothes to him as he walked to school. Not that he wasn't used to this,--it was winter after all, and his clothes were bigger than him--but it quickly annoyed him, and soon he'd have to fix that. That was how Khalil was; he normally couldn't care less how he looked, or what clothes he wore, as long as he had something on,--it didn't matter what it was--Khalil found he wasn't breaking any "rules" and wore it. Today was different though; today, it was cold. Freezing cold in fact. 10 degrees below zero. Sniffling, and scratching his head, he slowly walked up to the entrance of his school, put his stuff away, and waited. No one he liked or knew we're in the halls at this hour, he liked to come to school 30 minutes early. (Don't ask why, even he doesn't know anymore). He normally did this to hang out with his friends, only to remember that they wake, and go to school later than him. So he sits near his locker, crosses his arms and waits.
Soon bored and regretting his last decision, he started walking around the school. No sooner than when he got up did the friend he was looking for arrive at the school. Her brown hair that slowly turned red at the bottom, he red glasses, her beige winter hat, and bright orange jeans. This was Morgan, Khalil's best friend since Elementary school. They never left each others side; at least until this year. In grade 9, the school system made their lockers as far away from each other as possible. So, Morgan began hanging around with other people. So did he, and he loved these other people. He even became a part of their gang, the Fabulous Five. But whenever Khalil wanted to hang out with her, she was either already gone, or not there at all. So today, he was going to change that. But as soon as he started walking after her, did another friend call his name. This time, it was his friend Emma.
"Coming! One sec..." he said.
Promising that he'd do it the next day, he ran over to Emma's locker.

The next day, before going to school, Khalil wrote a note and slipped it in his pocket. Smiling, and nodding at his work--or half-work, considering its crumpled up piece of paper with a few words on it--he put on his favorite hat and ran for school. Smiling the whole way, he knew this was likely to work.

When he arrived at school that day, he quickly ran over to Morgan's locker and slipped the note in the door way. Waiting again, he closed his eyes to regain the sleep he lost that night. (For you see, Khalil woke up at 5:00 that day--he was quite used to it, and didn't know why it happened--and only slept 7 hours, whereas his friends can sleep for twelve) When he opened his eyes, he saw Morgan standing over him, with a smile on her face.
"What? What is it?" he asked groggily.
"Of course I'll hang out with you! All you had to do was ask!" she said, giggling.
"I would, but whenever I want to, you're either not there at the moment, or not there at all!" he explained.
"Oh... Well that changes today! Right now, you're gonna hang out with me, and only me! Onward to adventure!"she called.
Smiling, Khalil walked beside her and explained one of his many stories he invents on the spot. These made her laugh and at the sound of that, Khalil smiled brighter.
"Laughter. I like the sound of that." he thought.
Joining in on her laughter, the two best friends walked together through the school.
