Morgan's POV
Sit Next to Me by Foster The People
Crap. I'm late.
Morgan glanced back down at her watch, seeing the time grow closer to 10 AM. She tapped the driver on the shoulder, clearing her throat before asking, "Is there any way we can go a little faster? My flight's at 10:20 and I still have to make it through security."
Looking at the rear-view mirror, she caught him rolling his eyes. "We'll be there in less than five minutes," he replied with a twinge of annoyance.
"Thanks," she mumbled back, leaning back into her seat trying to relax instead of focusing on the fact she could be late for her flight. After a week in Florida, visiting a few theme parks and the beach with her roommates, Abby and Nicole, Morgan longing for her comfy bed back home. They decided to go on a little vacation together over the summer before heading back to college in a month. A nice week of distractions from the real world where she watched over two 9 year-olds all day.
Looking out the window, she watched as the car turned into Orlando International Airport.
Before the cab came to a complete stop, she was out grabbing her bag out of the trunk and racing towards TSA.
"Thank you!" she yelled over her shoulder to the cab driver. Running through the doors she almost ran into the woman standing at the back of the line for security.
Oh, great. There's a long line.
Standing up on her tiptoes, she searched for the front of the line. It didn't look too long but then again the security lines always take a long time. Fortunately, it only took five minutes to get her ticket checked.
Now on to the metal detector and baggage check. Hopefully, I don't get pulled aside for random testing.
A tap on her shoulder drew her out of her thoughts. "Nice backpack," came a voice.
"Oh, uh thanks," Morgan answered quickly, finally taking the time to look over and see the individual the comment came from. He was putting the same backpack onto the conveyer belt.
"Looks like you have great taste too," she chuckled, nodding towards his backpack. The boy gave a small smile, looking down at his feet.
Were his cheeks turning a little red?
She looked back at the boy to get a better look. He was pretty tall with long, sandy blonde hair. He had a soft smile, one that could make anyone melt. He was wearing a red sweatshirt with the word "Dreaming" written on the sleeve.
Nah, it's just the lighting, she decided, turning away with a small smile.
"Oh, wher-" the boy started before being interrupted by the security guard running the metal detector.
"NEXT," he barked.
"Sorry, I'm coming," Morgan pulled off her tennis shoes and placed them in the same bin with her backpack and other belongings.
Maybe if I wasn't getting distracted by cute boys in the airport, I wouldn't be holding up this line.
She walked through the metal detector without it going off, grabbed her watch, and put it back on her wrist. It was 10:15 AM.
10:15 already?! Crap crap crap. I can't miss this flight.
Grabbing her shoes and backpack, Morgan started running towards gate A3. She looked a little funny attempting to put her shoes on while running to her gate, but she couldn't be that one weirdo in the airport without their shoes on. After almost falling on her face multiple times, she finally made it the gate.
"I'm here! I'm here! Please tell me I'm not late!" Morgan ran up to the desk in front of the jet bridge, handing the boarding pass to the flight attendant.
"Don't worry hun! You made it just in time and it looks like you aren't the only one late," she gave a small chuckle looking at someone behind me.
I turn around to find the backpack boy from TSA running up behind me.
"F-fancy seeing... you h-here," he was able to get out while trying to catch his breath. Morgan felt a warm heat creep up on her cheeks.
"Here you go! You two are all set to board. Have a safe flight to Houston," the flight attendant handed us our boarding passes and ushered us towards the door.
"After you," he said, winking holding the door open.
"Whatever pretty boy," she rolled her eyes walking down the jet bridge, allowing herself a small smile, one that he couldn't see so he wouldn't get any satisfaction. Morgan walked onto the plane without looking behind her, giving a small polite smile to the flight attendants who looked a bit annoyed. She walked row by row searching for an empty seat.
Please lord I'm begging you, don't put me in the back of the plane.
Knowing her luck, the only seats open were in the back next to the bathroom. Great. She sunk into an empty row and took the seat next to the window, finally able to sit down and take a breath.
Phew. On the plane, heading home. Were all good.
Feeling a bit more relaxed, she looked up towards the front, searching for backpack boy. The poor guy was looking for a seat but was a bit unsuccessful. He looked back towards the back of the plane where she was sitting. He continued to make his way back.
Poor kid. I guess I could be nice and invite him to sit next to me.
He was walking past my row when Morgan reached out and grabbed his hand.
"Hey, come over here and sit next to me," she offered, giving him a friendly smile.
"So, you listen to Foster The People too?" he asked, plopping down in the seat right next to her.
Morgan was a bit taken aback. Not many people have heard that song by them.
Hmm, maybe this flight won't be too boring after all, Morgan thought as she settled in for a long ride back home.
