This is the story of a teenage boy who fights off evil spirits in a magical town called Bilquees. Fabula, a phoenix with wings like fire, gave great companionship, and Lilith, the elf, who was always too shy to come out of the forest, but always supplied the best advice and had the greatest gossip. Even with all of their help, the boy did the real fighting.

He was a seventeen year old boy, one too naïve to know that he didn’t know anything. Having a drunk mom and an absent dad, made him the leader of the house, but all he had to take care of was himself. Skinny as a seventeen year old boy could be, legs like sticks, arms no wider than a small water bottle. Hewas about to go on an adventure of a lifetime.

One day, everything seemed off he couldn’t control his feelings and kept thinking irrational things. It wasn’t only him though, his mother was worse than normal and wanted more than anything for a better life. The boy had just been at a party with a friend he met at badminton camp and things went terribly.

They had to leave early because cops came and arrested a girl wearing a short, black dress. So, he left and went home to his mom. It was normal to find his mom just lying on the couch, so he let her stay there. Weirdly, she stood up and tried to make conversation with her son. He was not only surprised but utterly shocked. “Hello son,” she said.

“Why are you deciding to speak to me now?” he responded, “These past years I have only seen you get up to get another bottle of whatever you’re drinking, why do want to speak to me now?”

She was mad at him for being so ungrateful to her kindness. I give him a house to live in she thought, why is he reacting this way, “WHY AREN’T YOU THANKING ME BOY?” she yelled at him viciously. She was beyond angry, so angry that the boy thought he saw steam fuming from her ears. “GET OUT OF MY HOUSE BOY I DON’T WANT YOU HERE!” she bellowed. He scurried out of the house before she could do or say anything more.

Deep inside, he knew that he would never have a welcoming place in that house ever again and it was already getting dark outside. He decided to go to his badminton coach’s house, even though he wouldn’t want anyone to see how gloomy he looked. The boy felt bad, like a teenage boy is supposed to feel when the get kicked out, but he didn’t really care.

Knocking on the door was dreadful, mainly because it took Pam, his coach, at least ten minutes to open the door, even though he yelled ‘one minute’ five minutes ago. “Oh, it’s just you, come in, quick, its cold outside.”

As they got inside Pam started to get worried because not only did he reek of marijuana but he was out at such a late time. What had he been doing?

“Can I stay the night Pam?” the boy asked.

“Sure, but first: are you drunk?” Pam said.

“What? NO!” he answered defending himself.

“Why do you smell like drugs?” Pam wondered, asking yet another question.

“I don’t know I was just at a party maybe something in the drinks, I’m tired I’m going to bed.”

The second he got in the room he passed out. Waking up in a room that was not the one he fell asleep in. Waking up to a thing tapping on his shoulder and it certainly wasn’t Pam. This thing was amazing, huge fiery wings, dark skin, bright, beautiful eyes. “Hi! Mo wa Fabula kaabo si Bilquees,” the thing said in some foreign language.

“Huh, what does that mean?” the boy responded.

“Oh you are a human. I’m Fabula, I’m a phoenix. You can tell by my wings. I just found you here in the middle of the forest. Ought to get you before Scylla does”
