To Harry's horror, Ron came in, laughing, pulling Lavender by the hand.
"Oh," he said, drawing up short at the sight of Harry and Hermione.
"Oops!" said Lavender, and she backed out of the room, giggling. The door swung shut behind her.

There was a horrible, swelling, billowing silence. Hermione was staring at Ron, who refused to look at her, but said with an odd mixture of bravado and awkwardness, "Hi, Harry! Wondered where you'd got to!"

Hermione slid off the desk. The little flock of golden birds continued to twitter in circles around her head so that she looked like a strange, feathery model of the solar system.
"You shouldn't leave Lavender waiting outside," she said quietly. "She'll wonder where you've gone."

She walked very slowly and erectly toward the door. Harry glanced at Ron, who was looking relieved that nothing worse had happened.
"Oppugno!" came a shriek from the doorway.
Harry spun around to see Hermione pointing her wand at Ron, her expression wild: The little flock of birds was speeding like a hail of fat golden bullets toward Ron, who yelped and covered his face with his hands, but the birds attacked, pecking and clawing at every bit of flesh they could reach.

"Gerremoffme!" he yelled, but with one last look of vindictive fury, Hermione wrenched open the door and disappeared through it. Harry thought he heard a sob before it slammed.

Firstly, whenever Hermione speaks quietly-quietly, it means that she has gone all danger mode

Secondly, "Hermione walked very slowly and erectly towards the door." Look at her body language. It represents threat, disappointment and danger.

"Ron, who was looking relieved that nothing worse had happened."

Why did he say "worse"? Nothing has happened yet. But to Ron, Hermione's danger mode is enough. Also, it shows that Ron had been expecting much worse. That's why, he had decided to greet Harry instead of Hermione. Also, if he had strutted in the room with Lavender and then greeted Hermione the way he greeted Harry- that would have been downright insensitive.

But no, some would say, he should've apologised! He should've said sorry!

Why should he have said sorry? Because he cheated on her?

Yes, all of that is fine, but just a teensiest bit of problem- he didn't cheat on her. Oopsies. Did you think he was dating Hermione? He wasn't- not in that book.

Ron, Harry and Hermione were best friends. Harry liked a girl. He dated her. Hermione liked a guy, she dated him. Ron liked a girl. She didn't date him. That girl was Hermione. Hermione dated Victor Krum, a famous quidditch player and ron's hero.

What did ron do? Argued with hermione. Next day, both of them ignored it and they were friends again.

Ron later found Hermione was writing novel-sized letters to krum. What did he do? Nothing. He merely wondered- taking care not to do so in front of hermione- that what did victor have that he didn't.

Ron later finds out that hermione kissed krum. It was a obvious thing but he didn't want to admit it. He lashes out and starts being very unpleasant. This annoys hermione.

Now, this time- lavender likes ron. Ron kisses her. What does hermione do? ATTACKED RON WITH FREAK BIRDS WHO PECKED AND CLAWED ON EVERY BIT OF FLESH THEY COULD REACH WHILE HE YELPED AND HERMIONE WATCHED WITH VINDICTIVE FURY IN HER EYES.

Hermione pointing her wand at Ron, her expression wild: The little flock of birds was speeding like a hail of fat golden bullets toward Ron, who yelped and covered his face with his hands, but the birds attacked, pecking and clawing at every bit of flesh they could reach.
"Gerremoffme!" he yelled, but with one last look of vindictive fury, Hermione wrenched open the door and disappeared through it.
