MORNINGS WERE USUALLY pretty routine for Alex on the enterprise. He'd get up early and do his shift, and have time in the afternoon to do whatever he wanted. There were facilities everyone could use on board, like staff rooms and sports halls - but he mainly kept to himself, only really casually talking to Owen and Data outside of that.

That day was like most, and he was beginning his walk to the lab. His uniform still felt weird on him, and he could barely look himself in the mirror with it on. His uncle had always said how much he looked like his dad, but he didn't believe it until he was really on board the ship for a while.

He tugged at his collar, rounding the corner only to almost stumble into two figures.

Riker had Wesley propped up, an arm wrapped around his shoulder to keep him up. The ensign didn't seem to be fending well, his head hanging slightly, barely conscious from what Alex could tell. The man looked peeved, face scrunched in annoyance until he saw the young scientist - relief flaring in his eyes.

"Ah, Mr. White," He addressed, and even though they'd briefly met before, Alex was still surprised that the commander even knew his name. "Ensign Crusher was in the transport room when there was a bit of a mishap. Take him to the medical wing to get him checked up."

"Commander, sir, I-"

"It's an order, not a request Mr. White," Riker told him, and although he was intimidating, Alex couldn't take him seriously with the way he fumbled to keep Wesley from falling over - clearly stressed and in over his head. "His mom is the Head Doctor - she'll sort him out," He told the researcher, handing the boy in his arms over in a lackluster fashion.

Suddenly, all of Wesley's weight was on him (the boy groaning and mumbling something incoherent at the sudden displacement), and Alex was overwhelmed to say the least. Before he could protest much, the commander was turning away.

"Make sure she sends through her evaluation to Picard - he'll want to know his condition," Riker told him, voice gruff, and final on the subject. All Alex could do was blink in reply, nodding in confirmation while his superior simply sighed out a breath, "Well, get to it!"

With that, he was being left alone with the ensign leaning up against him for support. Huffing, Alex accepted his fate no matter how inconvenient it was (it had been his dream to get ordered around on the Enterprise, just like he was now, after all), maneuvering so that he could fling Wesley's arm around his shoulder for support, his arm wrapping around his waist to steady him. He wasn't heavy at all, even for someone like Alex, who didn't exactly spend his time tending to his physique - although he'd passed the training to get aboard the ship like most everyone else.
