Chapter 1 (Edited)

It has been one whole year according to the human calendar. 365 days since my sister decided she wanted to be a pirate. 365 days of my dads new plan built on his anger.

There were 18 of us. Ten boys and eight girls though to the kingdom I was seen as more of a female figure. But I guess in the world of  mer folk genders didn't matter. We are the Mer who lived for happiness and to bring our kingdom bright memories . As well as the next generation. I was the youngest of the royal family. All in all it was happy, but like any other family there were flaws.

My father was king and all of us children were expected to be the example. My brothers , sisters, and I were born to marry mer.... not humans. The whole goal was to actually stay the fuck away from humans but at the moment, Andriana was taking orders from one and my other sister , Madeline, is mated to one. So that leaves the rest of us to feel the effect.

I loved the world above just as much as I loved the sea. I would sneak off and go to the surface of course, but I also know the world above can be dangerous. I wasn't some clueless child who did what he wanted like a spoiled clueless brat. Yet, I still fought to see the beauty in everything. Maybe that wasn't always such a good thing. Maybe that is what made me clueless.

" Rainey! Rain! Hello?!" I was jilted out of my thoughts to my sister Maryssa waving her hands in my face. " you've been quiet ever since dad went on a rampage to keep us busy." I sigh and look at myself in the mirror. My long black hair floated around me as I looked at myself. My tail was different from everyone else. It was more of a rainbow shine hidden in grey scales. My body was tan and curvy like the beautiful girls I'm friends with, but I would never admit the same about myself.

" Ray...it scares me when you are quiet and go into your own head. Please talk to me."

" I miss Andriana" I looked up at her.

She was stunning as always. Her tail was as blue as the shallow sea and her hair was silver like pearls to match her tail that shimmers in the sun. Her skin was a pretty pearl color as well and of course the guys couldn't keep their hands off her.

" Father had all of our brothers working overtime in training ... y-yet he left me out... what if he tries to arrange a marriage for me like he's done for the rest of you . W-what if my future husband doesn't like me."  I looked out onto the rest of the room deep in thought.

It was also known I was the least sought out in terms of relationships and love. I've never been invited to parties and never asked out on dates. Even though it intrigued me,I wasn't excited to be in an arranged marriage. He would definitely hate me ... cheat ... I just wanted love.

" Ray you think too much" she flicked my forehead and swam away laughing. I giggled and swam after her.
