Maple Ridge

Chapter 1

I'm Jason Oliver Casiten. I'm beginning a new project, a film called Maple Ridge, which is the small town I live in. Why? The reason I did this is that I want to be a film director, which is partially true but the main reason I want to create a film is because of all the... Strange things that has been happening. Starting at the beginning of the month.

WEDNESDAY, OCOTOBER 18TH, 2023

I had recruited some of my friends for this film and we began filming, starting with the opening scene with my best friend Katherine. She was the main character of this film. The reason I had chose her for this role was that she had previous experience as a voice actress. I've watched how she does her voice acting as well. When she does the voice, she plays the character, she expresses so many emotions whilst voice acting, hand movements, body gestures, everything while she plays a voice, which is why I thought she was perfect for this role. We began filming her in a back alley, starting with the beginning.

"Wow. I can't believe I'm here again.. I never thought I'd come back to this scum of a town," She kicked a rock on the ground, walking forward.

"I should head back to the park to meet with Johnthen. Don't wanna be late." She walks out of frame, which is when I cut the scene, but leaving the camera running.

"That was perfect! We don't need another take."

"You sure that was good? I-I mean I can redo it again if you want to just make sure."

"No. It's fine Katherine. Don't worry about."

"Okay," She smiles at me. I smile back. "Also... I'm sorry if I get super emotional, or upset, or quick tempered. It's just cause... you know.. what... happened," her smile faded.

"I know. I'm so sorry for your lost. I'm surprised your even still doing this right now instead of letting yourself grieve and think about it."

"It's something you wouldn't want to think about... Especially with what I saw.."

"I understand... It- It's just crazy that someone could do that to Jessic-"

"Please... Don't say her name..." her voice began trembling.

"I-I'm sorry. My apologies.."

Jessica... Katherine's older sister Jessica was murdered earlier that month. In her bedroom, room covered with blood roof to floor. Katherine was the one who found her.

EARLIER THAT MONTH, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH 2023

I wasn't there, I only came out of my house when the cops showed up at Katherine's place the day Jessica's body was found. I was the one who comforted Katherine. The police tried asking her question but you couldn't understand a single word she was saying, in between the loud, uncontrollable sobs. So the cops asked her parents, which I somehow over heard while calming Katherine. Her parents said that they were downstairs, watching TV. Katherine and Jessica had planned to walk around in town that day. It was around 12pm when Jessica had not come out of the room and Katherine was going to go up and get her, assuming Jessica was asleep. That's when they heard Katherine give the most loud, blood curtailing scream. Her parents ran up to the bedroom, seeing Katherine laying on the ground in a ball, crying her eyes out. When they peered into Jessica's room, the whole room was covered in a dark, crimson, red. Roof to floor, furniture, windows, back of the door, everything was covered in Jessica's blood, with very little of her body on the floor.

Earlier at the police station, I was allowed to go in the investigation to calm Katherine when we heard her story. She woke up and did her regular routine, preparing to go out with Jessica at 1pm when it hit 12pm and Jessica was not awake. Katherine had decided to go into Jessica's bedroom to wake her up, she knocked and asked Jessica if she was awake. There was no response. Katherine then open the door to Jessica's room when all she saw was red and Jessica wide, lifeless blue eyes looking at the ceiling. After that Katherine couldn't remember anything else due to the terror and shock of finding her sisters body.
