As I watched my dad rush after Izuku and his birth parents, I felt dread and fear pool in my stomach and boil up into my throat. Shota's instructions to 'not get yourself killed. And help however you can, but stay safe' were engraved into my mind as I turned around and faced the enemy in front of me.
The villains known as Chronostasis and Overhaul were both stood before us, anger and disdain emanating from them in dangerous waves. The aura they gave off rattled me to my bones and made me want to curl in on myself. It was horrible being in the presence of such bloodthirsty creatures. I hadn't encountered any villains beyond those within the base. I wasn't there when the USJ was attacked. I didn't encounter villains during the attack on the training camp. This was the first time I was facing real villains who actually wanted to hurt me in the pursuit of their goals. Their goals, in the circumstance, being the poor shivering girl within Lemillions' arms.
"Mindjack!" Sir Nighteye called out to me, causing my head to whip around to look at him. "I understand that this may be scary, but you need to try and gain control of one of them."
I nodded in understanding and set my sight on Chronostasis. I knew that I wouldn't be able to take on Overhaul, he was too powerful, but I might be able to deal with his right-hand man. I focused on Chronostasis whilst still being aware of my surroundings. I was determined to be useful and aid those around me. I was going to prove my auntie wrong. I could be a good hero, and I was going to prove myself to those around me, I deserved to be in the hero course.
Chronostasis wasn't expecting me to go after him. Why would he? I was the unassuming one who blended into the shadows. Someone who wasn't noticed until you felt my capture weapon around your body.
My capture weapon wound itself around Chronostsis' midriff securely, prompting me to pull tightly and get the villain away from his boss. Though he tried to struggle, his struggle was in vain as steadily pulled Chronostasis through the battle raging around us, slowly getting him close enough that I could get him under my control. Curses spewed from the man's lips like an unholy fountain. Try as he might, though, Chronostasis couldn't worm his way out of my grip.
"Let go of me you foul rat!" Chronostasis cursed. I ignored the man and pulled him so that he was directly in front of me, close enough so that he could hear me over the sounds of Overhaul destroying the room in an attempt to catch Lemillion and Eri.
"Can I ask you a question?" I queried with a tilted head, eyes drilling into his. I may have been able to gain a hold over the man if it weren't for Overhaul going ape shit and sending the room into disarray.
I was sent flying backwards, only narrowly missing colliding head first with the wall. I managed to twist my body around so that my shoulder took the brunt of the force, and whilst it ached, I knew that it wasn't seriously injured. Even if it was, I wouldn't have gotten much time to check if it was ok since Chronostasis was quickly advancing towards me, the 'clock hands' which made up his hair reaching out to stab me. I knew that I had to avoid his quirk at all costs lest I want to end up frozen in time.
I leapt to the side, pulling my mask over my mouth as I did so. A half baked plan was rapidly forming in my head, it was one of the only ways to trick Chronostasis into responding to me. But I couldn't put my plan into motion yet, I had to avoid Chronostasis for just a bit longer whilst I adjusted my mask.
Meddling with my mask whilst constantly on the move was no easy feat. Jumping out of Chronostasis' reach and exchanging brief blows all interfered and made it impossible to adjust my mask so that it was working correctly, but somehow, I managed it. I managed to adjust the vocal chords within my mask so that I would sound like Overhaul, now I just had to implement the next step in my hasty plan.
