It's us {Dani and Jamie}

At first I didn't know where I was. I woke up and all that passed through my mind was a series of swear words and dull, throbbing pain.
   
When the room around me stopped vibrating behind my eyes I realized that it was my own bedroom. After the natural first questions (what?how?when?) there was a much more urgent one:
   
Dani?
   
I bolted up in bed and immediately regretted it. I was still cradling my head in my hands when someone knocked on the already open door.
   
"You up, Sleeping Beauty?"
   
Ah. The answer to all the questions.
   
"Hey Poppins."
   
"Jeez, I was starting to worry about you," She smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed. Her clothes were dry, I noticed. All traces of the nightmare gone, "You've been asleep since last night."
   
That was when I first noticed the searing white light streaming into my room from the window - probably not helping the headache, "What time is it?"
   
"A little past noon," She said, "Everyone's downstairs having lunch at the bar."
   
I pursed my lips anxiously, "Everyone?"
   
She stroked a thumb against my cheek, "Yes. Everyone. Owen, Hannah, Miles, Flora, the whole gang's here."
   
"Why didn't they go home?"
   
Dani smiled, "They wanted to be here when you woke up. Hope you don't mind, but we crashed at your place last night with you."
   
"Oh, I don't mind," A relieved grin seeping onto my face, "I'm just glad everyone's ok."
   
She nodded.
   
"Dani," I mumbled, "What happened last night? My mind is a little fuzzy..."
   
"So is mine, if I'm being honest," She said, "One moment I'm looking for a deer that hit our car and the next thing I'm standing in a lake with Flora, looking at you slumped against a tree."
   
"It was her Dani."
   
"Well I figured that much," She said, "But the thing is, I'm not sure why we aren't you know - with her right now. We were hoping you could tell us what happened."
   
"It wasn't me who saved you," I sighed, "I tried, but that girl has a death grip like I've never seen."
   
Dani nodded distractedly, staring at something on my forehead, "Oh no, you're bleeding again," She frowned, grabbing a washcloth from the side table, "Come here."
   
I sat up and forward as she scooted closer, pressing the cool cloth against my skin. I breathed in her scent - freshly showered.
   
Heavenly.
   
"Last night..." I heard myself whisper, "I was so--I was so scared Dani."
   
She smiled sadly, touching my hair, "I know."
   
"I thought I was," My voice broke, "that I was going to loose you."
   
"But you didn't," She said firmly, freeing both hands to cup my face, "I'm right here."
   
I nodded, biting my lip to stop the tears from rolling.
   
"Oh!" She cried suddenly, "Hold on, I brought you something!"
   
I stared after her in amusement as she darted back into the hall and returned with a mug. She presented it to me with two extended arms and a proud smile, "I made you coffee."
   
I took it hesitantly, but drank a sip just to please her, "Damn, this is actually good."
   
Her smile was brighter than the sunlight making my head pound, "Really?! Owen told me what to do, but I did it all by myself, can you believe it? All by myself!"
   
I couldn't help but laugh as she jumped in victory. She bent down and kissed me hard on the lips and when she pulled apart, I couldn't hold back the words any longer, "I love you Poppins."
   
She bit her lip through a radiant  smile, "I love you too."
