The ginger cat entered the MallowClan camp with the kit dangling from his jaws. Cats who were milling about stopped what they were doing and turned to look at the white kit which was stained in blood. The ginger cat's paws were stained in blood. His head and tail were drooping. "Aww...the poor thing," one said. "Who is going to take care of that poor kit?" another said. A chimera cat with dark amber eyes walked to the front of the camp. "What have we here?" the powerful tom asked, interest in his voice. The ginger tom's pupils narrowed. Why is he interested in the kit? He thought, but did not say his thoughts aloud. He dropped the kit at the other tom's paws. "I have found this kit in our territory. His mother was killed. I thought it would be best to bring this kit back to camp, Coalstar," the ginger tom said, bowing his head."That was the right thing to do Blazestream. I approve." the leader, Coalstar mewed. "Y-you d-do?" Blazestream stuttered. Coalstar ignored Blazestream's question. Instead he asked, "Who will nurse this kit?" "I will!" a voice called out from the gathered cats. A brown tabby cat pushed her way through the sea of cats. "I'll nurse him," she mewed. "Are you sure Brackenstem?" Coalstar asked. "I am sure Coalstar," Brackenstem answered evenly. "What should we call him?" she asked. Blazestream glanced at the kit. A furry tortoiseshell tom with white patches stepped forward. He scanned the kit, looking for any traits that would help name him. The kit's hind leg caught his eye. It was broken. "How about..." he thought for a moment. "Crookedkit?" he suggested. "Crookedkit," Brackenstem repeated softly, walking up to the kit. Her eyes softened. "My son,""Crookedkit will now be a part of our daily lives. Brackenstem will foster him if Thunderstep agrees," Coalstar announced, looking at the calico cat. Thunderstep dipped his head in acceptance. "Thunderstep agrees. Brackenstem will foster Crookedkit and Thunderstep will be his foster father. We thank Blazestream for bringing Crookedkit into MallowClan's ranks." Coalstar finished his announcement. "Clan dismissed!"
