Allyson Ryland
I looked up at the sky, the sun was about to set. Just great. I spoke to myself. This would have been the tenth sunset I've seen since I started my long run to freedom. I didn't know were I was exactly but all I knew was I was somewhere in the Midwest. I cleared the dirt on the ground allowing myself a small break before I had to continue for the night. I had to move during the night so that I wouldn't be spotted. During the daytime I had to move in incognito because everyone would easily spot a woman who has torn clothing, multiple bruises and blistered feet. And I wasn't taking any chances, no! I wasn't going to let Luka find me that easily. I could feel my body slipping by the day, I haven't had decent food in over a week and lets us not even mention sleep. I had no place to sleep at all and well sleep was a luxury I could not afford. The closest I've come close to resting was when I had "hitchhiked" a truck. I wouldn't call it hitchhiking, I hid in the back of a trailer that was transporting horses to the Midwest when the driver was eating at a diner that I had randomly passed by. I was really grateful because it seemed to have put some distance between me and Luka. And distance is all I needed to put between me and that Monster Luka .The cold wind slapped me back to reality. The sky had already started to grow dark and that was my cue. I dusted off the dirt that had accumulated on my bottom. I slowly got up I winced at the pain from my ribs the pain grew more and more by the day I had to completely shun it away. I knew I had broken some ribs with all that had happened I was actually grateful to be alive. I looked over the horizon, I had a long way to go if I want my freedom and I have to start now.
Another fence.
I let out an exhausted sigh. I literally have lost count of the number of fences I have crossed just tonight alone. The night had not been merciful to me at all. Although I was running I was freezing and I don't know if my body could take it any more but I had to try. I made it over the fence with ease. I looked at the starry night. There was no moon at all today, that sucked at that just went on to prove that I was alone in this world. Thick tears had started flowing down my cheeks I was alone and I had no one at all. I covered so much distance in this corn field than I did in the last one. What happened next happened at the speed of lightning but it felt like an eternity. The muscles in my legs gave out and I fell with a thud. I felt a sharp twist in my calves and in my thighs. I was no medical professional to know that I was having muscle spasms. I sat up to examine my legs but I only had the light of the stars. I started crawling on the ground but I felt my body starting to heat up, I was losing it. No! Ally please keep on fighting. I tried my best to get as far as my body could carry me but my body was tired. I felt faint and at least my world finally came crushing down on me. I silently thanked my body as the darkness slowly engulfed me.
